To kick things off and generate some interest here, I would like to know who plays on a regular basis or is just starting to get into the system.
Post here if you play, along with what armies you use and anything else you want. Maybe why you play a certain army, what originally got you into it, etc.
I'll go first, naturally!
Good or Evil? Evil of course, I use the mighty Fighting Uruk-Hai of Isengard!
I've been playing for a few weeks now, the system has come naturally to me oddly, and I have a real knack for making some cool lists and winning a lot.
The chaotic but simplistic nature of the system won me over, and I find it addicting to play constantly.
Why did I pick Isengard?
Good question I pose myself. Well when we all sat around to decide who to play, I remained undecided to figure out which side needs the most help. Three players went for Good, one for Evil. So my mind was settled on Evil (I naturally go for Evil though, so it wasn't a hard decision). Now I usually do a Horde, it's my thing. Lots of cheap troops so when I make a mistake, I have something to fall back on. But my friend was collecting Harad, the best horde army in the game. Two hordes just seems weird, and doesn't provide that raw hitting power in team games.
What then? After rewatching The Two Towers I decided on the Uruk-Hai, who I found out are rock freakin' hard in game. It also gave me an excuse to use a wizard and paint a relatively small army, so I could mess around with different paint schemes and get some conversion work in. Plus they look just cool, and I can get a giant crossbow of doom, so there.
Come share people!
Can I post? Even though i dont really play any more, but then again i dont play much Fantasy either, damn Uni..
Anyway, back when i played LotR as my main game, my armies were the Last Alliance, mostly i used the Elves. Elrond, Gilgalad, Spearmen, Archers, Swordsmen, Elandil, Isildue and Warriors of Gondor. The Elves had Gold Armour with green cloaks, and the Gondorians Black with silver trim, and Red cloaks.
My Evil army (my favourite ) was Moria. 60+ Goblins, 2 Trolls, drummers, Shaman, 8 Captains and the King, and, oh yes, le Balrog!!!
Still have the gobbos, but they are so badly painted im almost ashamed (1st ever miniatures) May repaint some over summer.. see how good i can get them to look.
Nice, Moria was always one of my favorites.
The Last Alliance, theme wise, was always interesting to me. Having fought the Last Alliance I know how hard they can hit, even if they are only an infantry list. Elendil has to be one of the most underrated heroes Good has to offer.
Still going for the 3 trolls of doom list, got to get my money first.
Yeah, simplier game mechanics means less hassel over stuff like "No! it clearly states here that bla bla bla..."
Brother is convinced into getting the fellowship as an army, because it's themed and the fellowship!
Create flames for a galaxy and it will be warm. Put a galaxy in flames and it will be warm for the rest of it's existence.
Yeah the Mordor Trolls of Doom looks really fun, I might have to try it out pretty soon.
The Fellowship is very theme oriented, and pretty powerful. But they require patience, an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, and also a little luck to boot lol.
moria!! yeah i started last summer! i have a starter set.. a box of gobo's and troll. 2 capts, drums, 1 king and one shamen... such an evil army
At least, this was before the bandwagon began to fill up (ie, now).
Myself I'm an Evil general (and HAD almost 2K Mordor- huge in LOTR), and my Mordor force is vaguely known around the world.
I suspect I'm the only LOer to have an account on TLA (biggest LOTR site on the Web), where I have a small amount of influence on their campaign (I'm a Mod on their Mordor forum:party2.
So yeah, I'm mostly an ex-LOTRer, most of my Mordor (and Harad, for that matter) force is still there, but it's life clock is ticking to the sad beat of time.
Could breath new life into it Archon with the upcoming Mordor supplement, which really gives Evil the cheesy heroes and broken rules it deserves, as "Good" already has.
Two Moria players so far, cool, Gobbo's seem to be popular everywhere I've looked.
I've been with the game since the beginning and am usually up to speed with the books.
Since I travel to new areas regularly I had to usually bring two armies to generate interest and give my opponent an army. I let him pick the side. I've got High Elves, Gondor, Rohan, Dwarves, Isengard & Mordor Uruk-hai, Orks, Goblins, Trolls and other nasties of Mordor. One of these days I'll put together the siege engines.
Loved the books and movies that I've collected a small group of every force up until the Hobbits came out and I couldn't afford to keep buying at the pace they were released.
