Ok so currently I am in the mode where I plan on spending loads of money trying out new non-GW miniature games. I am already sold on Warmachine, and was wondering if anyone out there played Starship Troopers. The minis are awesome looking, and the local gamestore owner says it plays unbelievably well. I will be getting Warmachine as I said, and will maybe be starting this and Flames of War as well. Thanks for any replies.
A rather large group of people at my LGC, North London Wargames Group, play Starship Troopers. They played it last Sunday, actually. They seemed to have fun and enjoy it alot! I've often observed it and it looks like it plays very well, though, I've never played it myself. Alot of people I know who like it also like Warhammer 40,000.
Excellent. Well there are 4 people here that play it. the starter set is a good deal. I am going for it. good god all my money is going away.
Don't s'pose you could give me a link for the starter box set? Not especially where to buy it, but that'd be useful too. ^_^
Please tell me you're not buying from there. I found it on another site for $20+ cheaper! PM me if you want the link.
I don't play, and don't ever intend to play, the Starship Troopers. I've looked at the models, and I'm not impressed and I've briefly glanced at the rules and I'm not impressed there either.
The major reason that I won't be playing that game is because there's a limit to what can be done with it. There's the good guys and there's the bad guys and that's pretty much it. I've heard that there is going to be another faction of humans that are like mercenaries, but big deal.
I think that it's going to be a game with a limited lifespan unless they make some major changes to the universe that weren't in either the book or the movie like add some new aliens or something to that effect.
In the end I'm biased against the game because I HATED the movie with all my little pattering heart. It was the worst piece of Sci-fi **** that ever made it to the theaters and should have gone straight to video like it's sequal. I thought I was going to watch a movie that was faithful to the book, but instead It ended up being "Beverly Hills 90210" in space.
This is the reason I'm only pondering starting it. I think I'll get very bored with it after a short period of time. :closedeyeOriginally Posted by H0urg1ass
Naw I plan on buying from my local games shop. i try to keep them in business, evern if it costs me a little more sometimes. As far as the variety goes i think they intend on adding extra races, something or other. plus from what i am told there is a lot of variety in army lists, etc. obviously not as much fluff as in GW games or warmachine. if they add stuff that goes against the fluff, bah i don't care. as long as it plays well and they can justify it being in there that's fine. i believe they have creative license. probably got it cheap after that abyssmal piece of crap that was the 2nd movie. hehe. i watched some guys play it though and it looked pretty fun. at the very least i can have some fun assembling and painting the bugs. i plan on getting SST and warmachine. both. i have the time and money to do both
I've bought some of the models and they are not anywhere near as high quality as GW models. I'm using the models in some of my 40k games for storm troopers.
I've looked on the mongoose publishing website and it looks like some of their flyer models coming out in December will make very nice 40k flyers.
My blast template of S10 AP2 will toast all terminators.
