Anyone who has been playing Lord of the ring's for a while now and has experience playing with free people's/good then post your tactic's here. If you are new to the hobby then ask questions here.
Army lists should go in the main lord of the rings forum.
Okay, this one is really simple
You set up a line of your guys, most likely swordsmen.
Now, in the case of elves, this works a lot better, but anyways.
You set up a line of of swordsmen, and in basecontact behind them you put a line of archers. Then behind them, you put a line of spearmen.
This lets you gun down the approaching hordes (usually orcs or goblins) and then they hit your combat guys, most likely already thinned. If they kill them, they have to move onto an archer with two attacks, and thus more likely to kill the little bugger.
The Men of Minas Tirith can do a modified version of this...
Set up two lines of archers. Then, put a group of two lines of spearmen about 4" in front, then a group of swordsmen another 4" in front. This lets you volley fire, then your swordsmen get hit, with almost immedeate spearman support to come, and the remaining spearmen are free to redeploy to deal with other threats, like enemies that didn't get into an engagement. It works.
Oh, and never forget that Wood Elves can go through woods. And they're the best archers. NEVER forget that, it lets you sprigns some really surprising blows.
If a tree falls in the forest, and it lands on a mime, does anyone care?
not really a tactic but, never take men of gondor bow men they are much worse than rangers for the same points. rangers have an 4 fv and a 3+ to hit
Veni Vidi Variant
I came, I saw, I got a different type of Leman Russ.
The spikey ones go faster.
98% of the teen population has smoked weed, the other 2% went straight to crack.

Rules for grenades are on page 72 of the rulebook.
Free bows aswell, and when coming up against cave trolls, the Heavy Armour doesnt make much diff. . .
Anyone got any tactics for Rohan
We strike like lightning, fast and deadly
In the shadows you will only find death
Really simple tactic.
A line of warriors of the dead
Centred with some characters (King of the dead/Aragorn/Gimli/Captain of Gondor, someone fighty) Two characters is usually enough.
Backed by Spearmen and a standard or two.
! ! ! S! ! !S ! ! ! !
And some bowmen (what ever flavour you prefer) for firepower, eitehr use defensively

Bows and spears swap places when enemy gets close.

Fighty block advances, bowmen provide cover.
Maybe put a character with the bowmen in this case.
I have a good tactic for defending with good guys in a seige.
Buy treebeard, and get him to attack the seige towers and anything else with batter points, as he has strength ten and 6 attacks when he does, and when he destroys the seige towers, all the men inside take one S3 hit for every 2cm they fall - big pile of dead orcs
Does anyone have any good ideas to kill the balrog? I have a trebuchet, but it's a bit unreliable at hitting and scattering.
birdy, a good tactic for rohan is to use alot of cavlary, and try to spilt up an enemy force. good example of this is when i played a game with 12 riders, 6 royal guard (on foot) and eowyn (on foot) riders ran circles around the urak hai, spilttin the force into 2 groups, then i charged all my men into 1 of the groups destroying them, then all you have to do is mass charge the last group. it works, out of all my men, i lost 1 rider and 2 royal guard, he lost 19 urak hai
I adopted a cute lil' pikachu fetus
from Fetusmart! Hooray fetus! </a>
Tactics for Rohan:
Use a lot of Riders and charge in the horde of orcs with someone like Eomer,Theoden, Gamling in the lead. They will widdle the force down. Get like 24 Warriors of Rohan led by Theoden or Gamling on foot and after a while they will catch up with the Riders and bring a second wave of destruction to the already beleagured orcs.
The archers you get with the Warriors box should obviously stay back and shoot or move allowed distance while vollying until in a regular shooting distance.
This tactic is very simplistic in itself and has worked very well on Moria Goblins I have played against twice. It sounds pretty good against Mordor but may have some trouble against well managed Mordor horde and Uruk-Hai.
