Welcome to Librarium Online!
Know any tactic's for the forces of evil? If you do put them here. All experienced players please share your tactic's.
If you are a new player then you should use this thread for asking any questions you have.
Army list's should go in the main lotr forum.
BY CAPTAIN LEOTANOUS, I pasted it into this thread which is more appropriate.
I have some interesting things to tell you followers of the sauron out there,
after playing some games with Inquisitor lord anderson I discovered that mordor orks are very useful at getting rid of rohan riders. They are very capable of taking down a unit of 12 horses and withstain very few casualties.
Another good way of using your army is to overwhelm the opposition and their heroes forcing them to spend points of might and will and eventualy bringing them down.
leave some tips for other players and me to use
But maybe we should not mention anything about the Knights of Minas Tirith on the other flank, or maybe we should, only 20 of those orcs died didn't they.
Or how about your efforts of breaking the 2nd shield wall
I think there was a small bit of luck (or absence of it for me) with the riders.
Orcs are good but with a fight value of 3 are a bit lacking.
Charge an orc equipped with a 2 handed weapon alongside an uruk with hand weapon and shield then you have F4 for winning the fight and the orcs weapon to allow extra damage from the fairly weak orc.
Anyone like to add more...
P.S Wait till I have 12 More riders of Rohan Led by Aragorn, Theoden, Eomer, Gamling, Eowyn AND MERRY.
a few learning points for this battle
*just because orcs can take down riders of rohan doesnt mean there invincible
*Gimli wont go down without a fight so be prepared he may not be powerful but has a very high defence
*be wary of shield walls these are very hard to destroy
With the lights out its less dangerous here we are now entertain us
That be why Easterlings rock so much, and dont forget it!
Uruk-hai phanlax formation
A nasty Roman-esque formation with White Hand Uruk-hai is the phanlax (yes I gave it that name).
Use a line of Berzerkers:
with two lines of pike support:
and a standard for maxium fightiness:
This formation is an idea taken from Warhammer regiments. If you look closely, each Berzerker has FOUR attacks at S4 with the option of two-handed and a re-roll for each fight. That's hard.
The problem is that it is prone to flanking (as Warhammer regiments are) but the pikemen are still F4 S4 Uruks so do not underestimate them.
A Captain could be included for heroic moves but he is not really essential as the Berzerkers do the fighting. To make the formation even for formidable, you should place an Uruk shaman in the rear ranks (he's quite vulnerable) and cast fury. The morale benefits are not too great (the Berzerkers are fearless anyway) but imaging your opponent's horror when the Berzerker he miraculously killed get back up again when you roll a 6!!! He also has a point of might for that heroic move.
Overall, the phanlax is a strong resilient juggernaut, capable of sweeping all but the toughest opposition away but is relatively vulnerable to calvalry flanking. I say relatively because the S4 pikemen can still hold their own in combat and one they "scoot" out of the way using a heroic move (unless they want to negotiate with Mr Berzerker) then you can hammer them with the unit of crossbowmen you have at the back of your army. Use the phanlax and watch your opponent gnash his teeth as your nigh unstoppable unit crunches through his line. Go forth and fight!
Don't put too many orcs inside the seige towers though, as they are very vulnerable to trebuchet fire, and treebeard. Anyone got any good tactics for Saruman? :w
Just look above your post!
I ment the man saruman, not his army.
Well, he's a a lot like Gandalf the Grey except he can affect the enemy across the entire battlefield. Immobilise comes into it's own here when you root a tough enemy character to the spot far away.
There is an article on spellcasters in a WD (the one with the release of the new I.G., can't remember which). This will explain the tactics for him much better than I can. :w
