My playing style is kind of laid back at 750; i sit back and blast them. simple as. The devilfish goes to the FW's as usual, and the pathfinders sit in buildings putting markerlight hits on enemy units. The FW's then shoot at the marked unit, expending 2 counters to hit on 2+, and the other suqad which should be in rapid fire range due to the devilfish expends the rest, up to 2, to hit on 3+ / 2+ and cause serious damage. The piranha goes up a flank to take out tanks with it's juicy cover save from turbo boosting and having a disruption pods, then it gets into charging range of a unit and when they charge, the flechette discharger goes to work. Then it turbo boosts away to assist the DF and FW's. The command squad sits back with the pathfinder squad to hit heavy troops and provide covering fire.

And FYI, I already have 1 bodyguard and he can only have 2. Putting in another 2 would be illegal. Also, more than 3 battlesuits below 1000 points causes the model count to be low, and easily wiped out by horde combat armies like orks.

I know quite a few people who cant play more than 750pts at my local shop.
The shop I go to has yet to get a fair player base and most of the player's are on tight budgets (myself included).

    As for anti horde army's I have found a possible answer for them;

    Firestorm: XV8'ui, MP, BC, MT=50pts (cheap with 3x str5 ap5 and 2x str7 ap4 shots, all at 18" w/JSJ capability)

I've made a list using this concept design and hope to use it today or tomorrow, I'll give results if desired.

Hmmm... never considered that setup before. Doing the mathhammer, it should cause at least 2 wounds per turn; however for truly squishy armies I am playtesting a very specific setup thatkills the transports and then the guys inside.it's nice against the 2 biggest armies I face: mech guard and orks with battlewagons. Here it is:

    Shas'vre
    Missile pod
    Flamer
    HWMT
    Target lock - 61 points

Not great on points, but it allows me to deepstrike behind a building next to a transport, JSJ and kill both the transport and the troops. Very nice against Mech lists. And BTW, the deepstrike is likely to hit because of the pathfinders being in line of sight with their thingys that let you reroll deepstrikes and then markerlight them to give him higher BS. Then some of them use rail rifles to pich off the remaining troops or help kill the transport. I'll let you know how mine does if you let me know how yours does!

    Hello.

I'm still kind of a new player to Tau, but I wouldn't dare to use your Shas'vre. My concerns regarding this setup are as follows:
    1) Downgrade this guy to a team leader. You save 5 pts. outright which you could use to make this flamer twinlinked by shifting targetlock to a wargear section. Making him a veteran won't help against those orkes in CC anyway.
    2) You can't kill the transport with MP and then scorch its passengers in the same shooting phase. Target lock doesn't work that way.
    3) I'm not entirely sure about that, but you can't JSJ after deepstriking. It would be more like DSD - DeepStrike-Shoot-Die.

If you are looking for something to kill bad orkses fast, look up Firestorm setup (provided two posts before mine by Blood Seriph) or a twice as much expensive Shas'El with AFP, CIB, TA and HWMT = S4 large blast + 5 S3 shots at BS5, 18", which will keep your precious safe.

    4 the GG!

Ok, fair comments. Got the TA and TL mixed up, sorry. The points would really be 66. The thing to remember though, is that the orks I face are diverse, with mekanobs and 2 bosses. As such, missile pods help. As for downgrading him, you have to take into account my army being fluffier than a teddy bear. Their fluff for him would be that they are pinned down, and a leader has requisitioned a full array of their best gear to infiltrate enemy lines and assassinate the main warboss with a missile with his name on it. Following this game, we use a game of inquisitor to decide on the next battle. That is why I have a stealth sniper who uses plasma rounds...

And it goes on. And on. And on.

But the long and short of it is, he's fine and you can't touch him for fear of having a missile with your name on it too. If anyone knows a mod, please ask them to close this thread as my army is as honed as possible without playtesting. Thank you to anyone who commented, especially blood seriph as he has changed most of my armies for the better. Bye!

PS: if anyone wants to hear more about the game of inquisitor, feel free to look at my thread of our version of it as it is quite interesting. I would love to give a link, but iPods aren't very foot at that. Thanks!

Plenty of people would. It's just personal preference. I like both the huge 3000 point battles as much as the 750 point battles. Just depends on my mood. Different strokes for different folks like they say. Now heres a question for you, what tau player wouldn't want pathfinders and markerlights in their list? And what tau player would prefer bodyguard over a regular suit with team leader? Especially since he had plenty of free elite spots.
