i dont know aboout what the fruitcake employees think, let me tell you though, I have SEEN the light my BROTHAS. The worse ass beating I received with my imperial guard, EVER was from a well played Tau army. My army was 3 platoons of 30, plus the commands, a good deal of close combat power weapons for my officers, and some heavy high shot rate weapons to take out some pesky fire warriors and unarmored Kroot. I took iron discipline, sharpshooters, 50 conscripts because I knew that I would need a meat shield, orgryns and heavy weapon squads out the wazoo. Sendinels and a nice Leman russ with some HB and LC sponson and front weapon rounded out my units. I did everything I normally would do against a shooty army, hug cover, avoid open exchanges, fight the battle on my terms to pull out a W.. I lost my LR to a hammerhead Railgun shot 1st turn, 2nd half (opponent's half) and his pathfinders pinned my 1st platoon command. The rest of the game was a constant repeat, a mechanized expensive piece of my army died horribly, usually injuring my own guys, then a bunch of my guys, usually somewhere near 10-20 keeled over with big bad holes in em. The tau fire warriors would fall in clusters of 3-4 at a time, usually to my heavy weapons. I took out 2 crisis suits, and his god awful hammerhead just kept POUNDING me into the ground, knocking out ogryns like they were paper, whether by solid or submunition. The kroot he took (which wasnt much, tied up my entire conscript unit that was left. In the end out of the 160+ men and 5 machines that I took to war, I salvaged about 20% of my army, most of them left dead on the field. That was my first BIG loss in a LONG time, I had lost before here and there, but never with such decimation. Usually, a few of them would die and i would kill a few of them, but it was never an issue that the game was so one sided. I can say that people who laugh at an army like the tau, with its inherent strengths and soon to be improved abilities, have never played the army commanded by a competent player. Commanded correctly, i can tell you that the tau are a vicious pain o the field, they can outshoot most armies outright, and if the commander is worth his salt hell know that the the strength of the kroot is not as a CC god like the blood angels, but as a tie up force, holding the oppositions best unit in CC while the FW get the job done. The kroot dogs add some extra vicious hits as well, and the hits are after the fact last i recall. Whatever the case, I got whipped, and have a healthy respect for the army.

-at our gaming group Tau are basically a joke, we have 2 tau players and they both lose very fast. -i tend to avoid playing against them as it is very boring to effortlessly slaughter your oponent. -I do like the tau models and fluff, but i have never seen a tau army that i coundn't beat. I seriously hope that they fix the tau in the new codex so that they are actually interesting to play against. it seems that any army that has any sort of tough/numerous and fast CC unit will slaughter them.

Being a former (And mildly current) Space Wolf player, I used to find Tau hilarious. Seeing as no matter how much of my army they shot to shreds, whatever was left could STILL annihilate the Tau in CC. There is nothing more beautiful then the look on a Tau player's face when he realizes that his JSJ'ing Crisis suits just got shot, assaulted and annihilated by my RI'ing wolf scouts. Then playing at a store different than my own, I met mech tau for the first time. Ouch. "They'll be just like Dark Eldar" I thought smiling "Shoot down the transports and devour the creamy center" Ohgod I was wrong. Hence, I started a mech tau army. The only tau player at my store before that was a whiney, immature static player (He was 36) that lost all the time and complained about it just as much. Seeing my new Tau army, some guys had a laugh at my expense. Until I beat a Khorne Army, a Dark Angels army, an Eldar army, and a Tyranid army my first 4 games. I finally did lose (Damn my fellow Space Wolf player and his HB'ered Long Fangs.) but the people around here are a whole lot more respective of Tau now. |

Tau got a fair amount of respect around my way, mainly because my hybrid list (no 'fish ) would often get a blood-soaked draw, and another player's mech tau was smashing most comers. In fact, the only army which managed to beat me conclusively was some whiney kid who abused FotD (hard to mount a defense with half your army). Thankfully, he doesn't play anymore. Nobody would play him

People shudder when I tell them I play Tau. They're all like "Broadsides? Stay away from me!"

That particular gun has gotten quite the reputation, hasn't it? It can certainly make an opponent think about his deployment once you thunk that bad boy on the table, I know that much. But where I play, people are pretty good about respect for the Tau. Some people, as usual, think that one army is better or that one is the worst, but that's just ignorance or inexperience. Of course, everyone has their favorite and least favorites, no problem there. But I do notice that Ork and Necron players usually talk the most pre-game trash, although it's not totally un-warranted. Cult of Speed Freaks. The Owsers.

I think Tau are like any other army, they can be played awesome and they can be played crappily. Though I do find tau themselves hilarious (being little blue guys and what-not), they're army can beat any one if the right tactics are employed. I've played some great Tau players, most recently at the last RTT I played in (about 2 weeks ago). He fielded a mech Tau list and almost beat me! Came with in 20pts of a draw but I sqeaked by. He was a great palyer. The point is, any army can beat any army, Tau aren't the losers of the universe.
