well i have had some bad experience with poeple that think tau is a sad army to play. until i shoot them to bits. i cant see why anyone would think they suck? they have the best guns and fast moving units. those ingrediens make a kickass army! i cant wait until the new codex comes out!! |

A friend of mine plays Tau, and most of the annoyance I have playing them is his fault and not his army's. (he talks about the greater good as if he were a Tau... it's thoroughly annoying) Tau are just like any army, if your good they're good.. if you suck, they'll suck too. Honestly I find that my guard army gets laughed at a lot more then Tau. Tau are more of just an unusual army choice from what I see. |

Anyone who has faced a tau army commanded by a decent player respects what tau can do, its the people who have never played agianst tau or agianst a good tau player that talk crap about tau. The most common line of thought for these idiots is that tau are horrible at close combat and are weak, fragil little pussies. What they dont realize is that Shas'O commanders have 4 wounds. Very few units in the game have four wounds. And with a st. 5 ap 5 30'' basic weapon, firewarriors dont need to be that tough. Anyways, If people are laughing at you, practice, and beat the crap out of them on the field. Thats the only way youwill earnt heir respect. Shove some railguns up their @$$E$

I went to a RTT in October, I didn't get any trash talking, but in my first game I faced the Best General from last year, without my knowledge, and this was my first serious game, I wa quite excited. It was a very close game, only beating me by 150 points or so due to an objective he had, but other than that he would have beat me by 1 point or something. Course, this dosen't really prove anything, but we had a great time, and my Railgun earned it's reputation that day (Bye Bye Monolith!) Course, in the last to games there was more trash talking, tbut that was because in each game it was Tau vs Tau. course the TTing wa nothing serious. Wow, I just wasted all that time and never made a real point......um... It all depends where you go and how you play? (Sorry)Mike |

Tau dont get any repesct because that they are all shootie and when they get into combat they get messed up real bad by just about anything. there also blue, have hoofed feet and are really unco and you cant tell the males from the females. If there are any?(what more of a reason do you need to pay them out). They also get some upgrades that just dont make sense to many people. And also many people now hate them more then they already did (i am one of those people) for getting a codex when other armys clearly need it. just my 2 sense

Yep, nothing can even hold a candle to tau shooting, except a super tooled up noise marine army. Personally, I've never lost to tau, but that's mostly because my chaos army is super fast/infiltrating/CC army. But I still come across great generals (like the one in my last RTT I mentioned), and Tau are always fun to play against. I've seen them wipe the floor with many and army. If they underestimate you... GOOD! Then they won't be expecting it when you blow away half his army a few turns in!

At my local GW only one person to my knowledge plays tau and he has it sussed, I have only ever refused to play him once (due to bad memories), we have had quite a few games and I lose everyone (it doesn't help I play space wolves 13th company) but I enjoy trying to overcome their massive firepower. Tau can be cheesy (he doesn't have a cheesy army) and my infrantry force suffers badly to jump-shoot-jump,out of my 1500 point-50 man strong army generally only 15 guys ever make CC and then they suffer from being swamped but thats part of the game. As like all armies tau can be cheesy but to a competent player they demand as much repesct as any other army, its when people abuse the rules and play with little of no tactics do their armies start to get a bad rep. rant over.

It's been my experience that there are excellent Tau players, horrible Tau players, and very little gray area between the two. There is also not a lot of crossover in a single store. All of the Tau regulars in a place will tend to be one extreme or the other, and which type your store has will determine the prevailing sentiments toward the galaxy's favorite technophile communist smurfs. At my store, there are three of us, and we're all pretty good. I didn't enter the last RTT that came this way (the Outriders running it were idiots with a burning hatred of anything not MEQ), but everyone already knew that the three Tau players would hold the three top spots at the tourney anyway. The other two Tau regulars proved them right, tieing for first place and leaving a trail of butchered Marines and Necrons in their wake. I'm not trying to brag, but I win more often than I lose or tie with my Tau, and some of the people I play against are very good generals. (the proof that I'm not bragging is that I have maybe a 1:3 win:lose ratio with my Nids. I enjoy playing them, I'm just no good at it.) I've learned that it comes down to playstyle compatibility. Ever noticed how Ork players tend to be as loud and crazy as their armies? How about the pious and stuffy Dark Angel stereotypes? I'm not bashing either sort, but pointing out that the tabletop and fluff style of the army tends to attract certain types of players. For Tau, the game is a very cerebral one. It is a game of tactics and measured engagements rather than overwhelming numbers or reliance on one "game winner" unit. The Tau have no such unit, and so the Tau player actually has to work for his wins: combined arms, selective engagement, and local fire superiority are the names of the Tau game. People who expect the Tau to be able to win fights with Railguns alone are going to be sorely disappointed -those who understand that Railguns are but a single element of an army that must operate as a cohesive, coordinated whole will find the Tau a chellenging but extremely rewarding army to play. Which, personally, is why I love them so much.
