I was at my local Games Workshop recently and I mentioned that I play Tau and all the employees and regulars laughed. Is that the response you people tend to get? Are Tau that looked down upon everywhere or is it just my area?

I get laughed at, until I pull out my Rail Gun's. I don't even gloat or anything, but they just don't want to play me. I'm a newbie too, with only like 3 wins out of 5 games, and they still don't want to play me.
I hope people are having fun.
Well i feel sorry for you, if you want to fix that you can start talking trash about how they cant even figure out how to get around a railgun, shame on them, it is such a shame when people start doing that. And i bet they all have space marine armies probably ultramarines. I feel sorry for you the hobby is expensive and for people not to play you after al that work. Well if you were in my area I would be happy to battle you Crons, Sm, or Tau.

"Yea Tau is the SHiZnit, they own, man dey got da biggest gat, aint no one aroum' gonna mess wiv dat!" quote the local ork player with gangsta themed orks, gotta love warboss Tupac with nobs 50 cent, emenem, Dr. Drey, Snoop Dogg, and Phat Joe. but seriously, i love the tau, they are amazingly mobile and hurty!
It's Dr. Dre  And he should really change Nob Eminem to Nob Flava Flav, or Ice T, or Ice Cube....sorry, I'm done.Originally Posted by Wishpoosh
But yes, that is pretty much a local, Marine-player reaction. Around here, Tau are liked and disliked just as much as any other army. Mine are liked a little more, since the Kroot and Stealths all have Kilts, and my Aun'Shi looks like William Wallace.

Not very many people play Tau at my club. I get "Oww you play Tau eh?" kind of response. I try not to beat those people too badly.Unless they play cough nids cough, then its all I can do to keep anything alive till the end.

It all depends on the type of Tau players in your area. A surprising amount of Tau armies can be played without the owner actually in command of anything. If you go to places where there's only "static tau" then there's generally a lot of mockery going on. It's not that the Tau aren't respected as any tough army should be (and it's difficult to make a Tau army not-tough), it's just that players who blame their regular losses on the fact that the board wasn't set up long-ways with no terrain tend to not be taken seriously.
Just play more and show em what you got. Then play the other Tau people and show them that they aren't the Basiliskguard and should be taking advantage of ALL their strong weapons.
And it's great that we're getting a new codex soon, but I fear it's just going to make a non-playing-Tau army a feasible option.
For the longest time Tau were a blight on our gaming group. It was one of the armies no one wanted to start. My friend then took them on and built a large army with the starter models we had laying around and really refaced the notions we had of them. Like the others said it really takes the player to prove the army. Just play whoever will play you and your good sportsmenship will win you the love you deserve.
