Missile Pods and AutoCannons are the exact samething, and if you look at most (and I really mean most) Chaos players who takes Havoc squad, you'll see them use AutoCannons more than Heavy Bolters. The reasons being, 1) they can be upgraded with TankHunter effectively making them an AP4 Missile Launcher, 2) they are still by all means, AP4, which means any infantry less than a power armour equipped models will be vaporized. Missile Pods are even better in this case (somewhat, without tank hunter), because we have the Assault2 variant of the weapon which allows us more mobility while firing the weapon. While Missile Pods aren't 100% the ideal weapon to deal with Power Armours, but the amount of fire power you can dish in usually will give your opponent a pause before he rolls those armour saves. Also, S7 is nothing to be joked about, Twin-Linked Missile Pod suits are my favorite Dreadnought killers, and my regular opponents knows fully well about how much threat they are compare to my other Twin-Linked Plasma suits.. range does matter  I hope that makes my previous post a little more clear to you.

I love the missile pods, but I generally take the Fireknife configuration with plasma rifles. However, I am seriously considering taking the following type of team instead of my standard 2 Fireknife teams... 1 Fireknife team leader w/ Plasma/MP, Targeting Array, Hard-wired Multi-Tracker, Hard-Wired Target lock 1 Deathrain XV8 w/ TLMP, Targeting array I think this makes a very effective team with the target lock. Mmmm. |

I can see the theory of why and how you would use a unit like this, but IMO you would be taking a lot of unnesecary upgrades and spending a lot of points you wouldn't need for the benefit of making (a possible) 2 plasma shots. Better to take a team of two w' TLMP/TA's and put a HW TL on the team leader. That way you can still target two different objects, you keep your high accuracy rate and you can keep a longer range to protect against reprisal. Of course the real benefit is that it is quite a bit cheaper, and those points can be spent elsewhere in armies. Dave
