Welcome to Librarium Online!
I thought I had an army setup like I wanted, but now that I'm going to be starting on my next units I'm not sure that I don't want to revise them. This particular build is intended to be a balanced starter army that could easily be expanded to 2000 points down the line (in my case, way down the line). The total points sums to 998.
Melek Taus, Tomb Prince (General) - Light Armor, Enchanted Shield, Spear of Antarhak
Suten Anu, Lich Priest (Hierophant) - Cloak of the Dunes, Neferra's Plaques
20 Skeleton Warriors - Light Armor, Shield, Hand Weapon, Champion, Standard
12 Skeleton Warriors - Bow, Hand Weapon,
3 Ushabti - n/a
Tomb Scorpion - n/a
Screaming Skull Catapult - Skulls of the Foe
My biggest concern with this was that my characters became more expensive with this iteration. Melek Taus would be kept with the Skeleton Warriors with shields, working in coordination with the Ushabti. Suten Anu would be back by the SSC and screened by the Skeleton Warriors with bows.
Any and all feedback is welcome at this point.

Hmm... overall not too bad. Ushabti prove expensive, but nicely effective at 1K. A second priest is nice even at this low pts level, but not necessary.
The Prince's setup is very expensive, The Spear is more of a Chariot item tbh. Id recomment the Collar of Shapesh and a simple Great Weapon.
That should also give you enough points for every TK armies most vital piece of equipment, the Cloak of the Dunes. This is a must for every Hierophant.
And moving onto the Hiero.. i was going to recommend the Hjar, BUT the Plaques are good for consistancy and youll be needing that here with your magic especially.
Drop the Champions from both skellie units, especially the bowmen. The Prnce should be able to handle any Challenges on his unit at this level nicely. Also drop the Bowmen's standard, and add music to the lare skellie unit.
Now, one final recommandation, assuming you have followed the above.
Either: Loose 1 bow skellie and get in a Scarab Swarm to help the Scorp with ICFB.
OR (preferably i think)
Loose 2 Bow Skellies and the SSC upgrade, and get in a unit of 3 Carrion.
When it comes down to a 1000 point list you can expect this from Phoenix (yes exactly this)
1 prince+great weapon+collar of shapesh
1 liche priest (hierophant)+cloak of the dunes+hieretic jar
1 liche priest
1 catapult+skulls of the foe
The common Phoenix list at 1000 points is similar to this, however there are slight variations, you could replace one of the swarms and the hieretic jar with a unit of carrion but other than that this is pretty much your average phoenix list. Yes Phoenix, you're that predictable

I didnt tell him to loose the Ushabti though... or get a second Priest. If asked to make a defensive list for someone then yes, it will look similiar to the above. When commenting on a list, i do my best to stick to the original, with improvements obviously
Heh. That's understandable. When you find something that works for you, you would naturally be more likely to suggest it to someone else.
I'm going to drop the champion and standard bearer from the bow unit, as you suggested. That should be enough to drop the Cloak of the Dunes on the priest. I think a second priest will have to wait for the next block of 500 points right now, though I would like to move towards a priest and construct heavy army.
The champion in the shield unit is going to have to stay. I've already built and painted him and would have to go out and buy another whole box of skeletons to replace him. Same thing with the shield on the prince. He was one of my first purchases. (And since we're in the process of negotiating for a home right now, my wife would take a dim view on me running out to buy more minis. ) So this kind of raises a few questions:
Just as an indication of where I'm planning to go, the plan for the next 500 point block includes a second priest and scorpion, a fourth ushabti, and either a tomb swarm unit or more skeletons.
- The prince is likely going to be some distance from the priest since the priest will be focusing on the catapult. I saw the spear as a way to help keep the numbers in the anvil unit up. If not the spear, is there a good combo that includes a shield for a tomb prince?
- How necessary is magic weapons in an army? I know a lot of people use the great weapon, but also I've heard of opponents who had ward saves negated by magic weapons, but I don't know how prevalent they are, or how strong the save is.
- The champion gets an extra attack and is prefentially raised when summoning. It also looks like they have to be specifically targeted (rulebook, page 81) so even if the rest of the front rank is annihilated, I should still get two attacks from him, right?
Changes have been recorded in initial post.

The Prince. I do see what you mean about the Spear.. and i guess the Collar instead just further decreases skellie numbers. This is generally kinda to be expected though. The Spear can be good... its just that a good save and high strength will often serve you better, there are many enemies which the Prince will find difficult with just 3A S5.
A good combo which includes Magical attacks (see below for them), Extra Str and a Shield... Sword of Might, Enchanted Shield and Light Armour.
Ok, Magic Weapons. They grant magical attacks, which do not negate ALL ward saves, but they do negate SOME. Specifically WE Forest Spirits and Chaos Daemons do not get their respective saves against magical attacks. Also its pretty much the only way o hurt Ethereal stuff in combat, so generally i think its a good idea to have atleast one Character with them. Ive recently switched my Kings GW for the Sword of Might.
Champion.. ok dont worry about attacks, he will very rarely kill anything. Skellies dont cause wounds, they are there for numbers only. The resurrection of a Chamo can be good, specifically when the unit is against an uber enemy Lord, you can Challenge and the Champ will cause you to loose less numbers. Then raise and repeat. However deadly Lords (Heroes) are rare at low pts levels, so the Champs role is somewhat inneffective. As for using him, even though you have a specific model for him doesnt mean you must include him, you can just count him as a standard skellieif you like, adding him as a Champ at larger points.
