Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey all - I am in the process of playing in a Mighty Empires campaign against very offensive lists. The armies in the campaign are as follows:
Orcs & Goblins
Beasts of Chaos
Tomb Kings (me.. obviously)
The only army that isnt very offensive and in your face are the Dwarfs, which I can handle, and have an offensive list I take against him... no worries - haven't lost a game to dwarves yet.
Now.. on to my list!
This is meant to be a strictly defensive list, and I play to make tweaks, but I am making what I can, with the models I own:
High Queen Khalida Neferher (G)
Liche Priest (H)
-Cloak of the Dunes
-Casket of Souls
-Collar of Shapesh
Skeleton Warriors x12
Skeleton Warriors x12
Tomb Swarm x1
Skeleton Light Cavalry x5
Tomb Guard x19
-Banner of the Undying Legion
Tomb Scorpion x2
Screaming Skull Catapult
-Skulls of the Foe
(Casket of Souls, as listed above)
This comes to just under 2000 points
Okay - now that the list is out there.. here are my concerns...
If/when the enemy gets in my face, I don't have enough power to stop them. I am thinking about dropping a scorpion and the chariots for Ushabti, but I do not own any of those models yet.
I don't think I have enough bowmen foot soldiers to make up for the cost of Queen Khalida.. but I ran a proxy list of this earlier last week and was very satisfied with the results of her in the list... I definately plan on keeping here in it.
Final concern = i think i miscalculated my points and may be over slightly due to the poison arrows. If I am, I can remove the light cav, as they normally go byebye early on in the game and are 'filler points' because I wasnt sure what else to put in the list for core units (besides one more swarm).
Something for your own reference, if I am not mistaken High Queen Khalida counts as a tomb king and as a result the chariots are actually a core choice for your list... I believe that it was errated as such.
On the list though I feel as though I cannot comment as I have never used Khalida. Interesting list and with Khalida in the list you will definitley get the rightous smiting to go off of the SSC.
Its weird I would feel as though that it would be better to drop the casket and take another SSC that being said the casket is generally handy especially when you consider vampire counts and dwarves are some of your opposition...
So seems to me to be a good list.
There is nothing more annoying when your Wyches with Plasma Grenades get "Always strikes First" for their combat drugs!
I had my first experiences with the Khalida list recently - and as I said before, I am happy with the results, I just don't think my list (at the time) supported her very well.
I have noticed in my games that the casket seems to do really well. It also makes people go straight for it.. giving me time/room to set up my defences fairly well. People love to target the casket, which in turn allows me to focus on their problem areas.
What ive done in the past is set the casket up with tomb swarms or weak units around it so it can't be charged... and with the list I have above.. i have enough casting dice that they either waste all their DD before I get to the casket, or they save 'em and all my other spells go through (which is very nice!)
If you want Khalida, Tomb Guard AND Ushabti, thats a massive take of your points. Ushabti are great for Killing power, and personally id take them over TG anyday.
With Khalida being a King, id suggest:
Lose the Light Cav
Lose the TG
Lose the Swarm
Get 4 Ushabti
Boost both Skellie Archer units to 20ish
Add BotUL to one Skellie unit (Khalidas)
Add 3 Carrion.
I think this is possible... ish
Bumping the Skellie units to 20 each I can do.
Adding 3 carrion I can do.
Losing the light cav, tg, and swarm I can do
Adding 4 ushabti would cost me 80 dollars... dunno if I can do. I'll try
Why are the ushabti going to be more effective over the Tomb Guard?
Also - if I do that, where do I put my prince? With the other unit of skellies?
I know its possible versus the lists I face.. I just won't be as aggressive. I think the problem I'm running into, is I am used to playing Chaos Warriors and their hard hitting power.. so I feel the need to get into combat.. I just need to lay back and let people come to me.
Prince with the Skellies yep.
Ok, Ushabti over TG...
TG need static resolution to win. Unit 5 wide with FC throws out 6 Attacks. KB can be nice, but its rarely key to victory.
Ushabti.. dont need Static. 4 throw out 12A, at S6. The high Str makes wounding easier and reduces saves.
Hence if what you want is something to tear through armour, Ushabti are what you need. If you miss the static, then back them up with some skellies too But often they don't need it.. what with Magically Charging, combat and healing.
