Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey, I have a 1000 points tournament coming up in 2 weeks and i really need some help writing a list..originally I was going to go with a pure chariots list, but i recently found out that there is a rule for this tournament that you have to take minimum 500 points of core. So now I have to come up with something, and my hair is falling out coming up with something i like.
I figured with 500 points core I am best going with a defensive list, and have a SSC in there somewhere. Anyway here is what I have come up with so far, though I am not very happy with it, any advice is very welcome.
135 - Lich Priest, Cloak of the Dunes
164 - Tomb Prince, Flail of Skulls, Shield, Light Armour
205 - Skeleton Warriors X 20, Full Command, Light Armour, Hand Wep and Shield
Skeleton Warriors X 16, Bows
Tomb Swarms X 4
Carrion X 4
Total is 998
Core total is 513
500pts Core, that ... sucks. Ahh well, gotta work with it!
Id suggest 1-2 units of Skellies with Bows and Music, possibly Banner and maybe Champs too.. depends if ypou need them to tip the 500. Use 2 Tomb Swarms, no more. Points just wasted otherwise. Maybe look into a unit of 5-6 light Cav, or... maybe even look towards a unit of Heavy Cav. Run 12 in 2 Ranks, with Music and Banner, also adding either BotUL or WarBanner.
SSC is a must, the upgrade really will be points dependant. Carion are also a good choice, run 3. As for the other specials, If you have Heavy Cav, Chariots arent that necessary anymore, and the same goes for Swarms/Scorpions. However if you have the points, slot one or both in.
As for Characters, two priests are ideal, biut probably unrealistic. Id suggest the Collar for the Prince, and a GW. Just the Cloak for the Priest too.
I was debating putting the upgrade on the SSC or not, but lately in tournaments the popular choices are vamps and daemons, as I am sure you all know
SSC for sure yeah, I mainly wanna use my carrion to march block whichever unit I am firing the SSC at for a couple turns until they charge a flank. Ill see if i can make room for a scorp, I am sure that people will be using smaller units, and a rear flank attack with a scorp could take out entire units.
Do you think that instead of maybe a priest over a scorp would be a better idea? With 500 points core I know most people will only take 1 caster at most. I know that if i do that I can dominate the magic phase throughout the tournament, its costly, but maybe even have a staff of ravening to get more of those dispell dice out to make sure I can be firing the SSC twice a turn.
I've been debating not even going to this tournament. I really like tomb kings core, but when you have to rely on them to be you're armies backbone I am not happy. I have had enough problems with toughness 3 elves lol.
With a 3rd Priest, i think youll already have enough points in magic, so wouldnt advise on the SoRav. You need some bulk to your army. Hmm... If you do decide to enter:
Prince w/ Collar + GW
Hiero w/ Cloak
20 Skellies w/ Bows + Music + Std
12 Heavy Cav w/ Std + Warbanner + Music
2 Tomb Swarms
28pts spare... HJar or Cat upgrade or a few more skellies or Champs or a Horse for the Priest or Vambraces for the Prince. Ill let you fine tune.
I've decided not to bother attending this tournament, the 500 points core cripples TKs too much and as much as i love TKs core, they aren't a backbone unit. There is just no way they are going to stand up to a daemon army, and there will be lots there of course (last tournament at the same place I played 3 outa 4 games against daemons)
too bad I was really looking forward to running a pure chariot list to this tourney, but both the armies I play, HEs and TKs, their core is nothing spectacular
