    1250pt Friendly construction challenge

    Hi,

I've only just gotten back into Warhammer after many years off. Way back when I used to be playing, I had an undead army, and some of my friends are getting back into the hobby. The models that I had are being used as the basis for a TK army with the addition of some purchases off ebay.

This is a bit of a different request. What I'm hoping to do is to list the models that I do have, and get some suggestions on what list to put together for some friendly play. Not certain about the armies that the guys have, but I know that there will be wood elves and vampire counts at least...

    The Models:

    1 GW Tomb King
    1 HW Tomb King
    1 Foot Liche
    1 Mounted Liche
    22 Skeletons w/Bow
~40 Skeletons w/HW and Shield. (Some of these models will be converted to have TK shields, and some are metal and so can't be. I should have 20 with TK shields)
16 Skeletons w/Spears (Some of these are metal models and so can't be changed to other types)
At least 2 sets of full command. (1 old Undead command, and 1 Tomb Guard one). I can probably muster a 3rd full command with some minor mods to existing models
    8 Heavy Cav
4 Chariots (although 1 is the crappy old style chariot that doesn't fit in with the TK army. I'm planning a conversion, but that this stage I'm trying to stick to 3 chariots)
5 Carrion (4 old models and 1 new one)
    1 Tomb Scorp
    1 Old SSC
    2 Tomb Swarms

    The Challenge:
To put together a decent 1250pt TK army with the above models. I'd like to keep the models as close to the TK theme as possible, but I can handle some substitution at this stage within reason (ie Skeletons w/HW&S used as Tomb Guard, but not spear skeletons used as bows). An effective fighting force is important, but so is making it look nice and in theme...

Finally, some suggestions for where to expand the model count to fill the army out somewhat (to 1500pt and then 2000pt). Plans at this stage are to possibly get myself a battalion box, so that I can get a swathe of bow skeletons, light cav, and some more chariots (including one for a TP to ride in)

    Thanks!

    I accept your challenge:

    Tomb Prince
    Great Weapon
    Armour of the Ages
    Vambraces of the Sun

    Liche Priest
    Staff of Revening

    Liche Priest
    Heirophant
    Heiratic Jar
    Dispel Scroll
    Skeletal Steed

    20 Skeleton Warriors
    Bows

    20 Skeleton Warriors
    Full Command
    Light Armour, Shield, HW

    3 Chariots
    Banner of the Undying Legion

    5 Carrion

    1 SSC
    Skulls of the Foe

    Total Points: 1247

Your opponents will see the chariots as the greatest threat, so will focus on shooting them, hence the banner. Fly the carrion behind whatever the SSC shoots at so enemy will flee into them.

The Battle Force is a great box for an initial expansion, but you'll find that the cavalry unit just isn't effective. They're essentially skeletons that can march for twice the points cost. The chariot model will not allow for a TP on 20mm base to fit, you would have to pin/magnetize the figure in case his chariot gets destroyed and then needs to walk. I personally use Settra's chariot (modified to 2 steeds) for my TK.

Other expansion opportunities are with the Tomb Guard (20 ) or a unit of Ushabti (4).

Although, just playing with the models you've currently listed as owning, you could still play 2000pt games if you used the HW/S guys as Tomb Guard. Barely.

    Hope this helps!

    No Scorpion?

I thought those guys were a staple of any TK side...

Still, a very interesting army. Not at all what I was expecting. When I get a chance, I'll put together a list that I was thinking about. Thanks for the response

I take on your Challenge This will be interesting:

    Tomb Prince Meht-Sera (General)
    Armour of the Ages
    Great Weapon

    Liche Priest Kumn Nut (Hierophant)
    Cloak of the Dunes

    Liche Priest Esthra
    Staff of Ravening
    Skeletal Steed

    Screaming Skull Catapult
    Skulls of the Foe

    Tomb Scorpion

    Carrions x5

Skeleton Bowmen x24 (add some Warriors in the rear rank and it will be fine)
    Musician

    Tomb Swarm

    Army Points Total: 999
    Army Model Count: 37
    Army Dispel Dice: 4
Army Power Dice: 5 (+ level 4 bound spell)

    Hierarchical Order:
    Meht-Sera - My Will Be Done - D6
    Kumn Nut - Incantation - 2D6
    Esthra - Incantation - 2D6
Esthra - Staff of Ravening - Power Level 4

    Tactics with this list:
    • Stand ground and shoot at your opponent. Fly with Carrions behind the enemy lines to catch fleeing opponents. Don't let ANY of your Carrions down, so that one dies... They will not be of good use then
    • Place Meht-Sera together with the SSC crew. Place Esthra together with the Bowmen. Let Kumn Nut fly on his own, safe from harm.
    • Stand with the Scorp along with the Bowmen if possible. Do not use ICFB unless your opponent is very artillery oriented.
    • Use the Tomb Swarm to direct crucial charges to places like forests and swamps
    • When the enemy approaches, make Meht-Sera join the Bowmen instead to accept challenges and such. Place Scorp so that it will hit flanks if the Bowmen gets involved in Close Combat.
    Expanding suggestion:

    Batallion

A little short of the 1250pt limit though

Here is my crack at the list:

    Tomb Prince (General)
    Armour of the Ages
Vambraces of Sun (Just to use up the last few points pts)
    Great Weapon

    Liche Priest (Hierophant)
    Cloak of the Dunes

    Liche Priest Esthra
    Staff of Ravening
    Skeletal Steed

    Skeleton Bowmen x20

    Skeletons x24 with HW/LA/S

    Chariots x3

    Carrions x3

    Tomb Scorpion

    Screaming Skull Catapult
    Skulls of the Foe

    Total cost: 1250.

The other option would be to drop the vambraces of sun, and add musicians to both skele units (and have a few points spare)
Tomb Prince to be in the HW/LA/S unit, Heirophant to hover around the SSC and then fly off when enemy get closer, and priest on steed to get adventurous and try to get urgency off for carrion / chariots while letting loose the staff...

To upgrade to 1500pts, I was thinking of adding:
    Tomb Swarm x2
    Skeleton Bowmen x14

Add Standard bearer and BoUL to chariot unit
