    Casual TK-1000pt beginner

Hey, I'm thinking of starting a TK army. I generally play 40K nids, but I want to try out fantasy. Here's just a test army I'm thinking of getting at the moment.

    Heros:
Lich Priest- Hierophant, cloak of the dunes- 135 pts
Lich Priest: Casket of Souls- 280
Tomb Prince: Great weapon, light armor- 106 pts
    Total: 519

    Core:
    10 skeletal bowmen- 80
    10 skeletal bowmen- 80
19 skeletons with hw and shields, standard- 162 pts
    Total:322

    Special:
    Tomb Scorpion -85
    3 Carrion -72
    Total: 157

    Grand Total: 1000 pts

Pretty much the Hierophant helps the carrion kill the enemy warmachines on the first turn before running behind the big skeleton unit that will have the tomb prince in it. The tomb scorpion is just in case the carrion fails, and can also nab enemy wizards or assist big skeleton unit. Meanwhile, the liche priests will be allowing the bowmen to shoot twice a turn or can give the large skeleton unit an extra combat phase. The casket will drain the enemy's dispel dice and if they can't pay, then they will hurt. I think the casket is a fairly safe gambit in a 1000pt game as most opponents won't have many wizards, so its either they try to stop the bowmen from shooting more or they safe their units from death.

Thats a pretty good list for 1k, you will competely overwhelm most people in the magic phase and your strengths (magic) should shine through. Looks like a powerful list to me.

There isn't a huge amount of support though. It looks like you're relying on winning in shooting before they close. But it could work..

Thanks. But yeah, pretty much it hopes the casket and shooting will do enough damage to kill most of the enemy, and then the unit of skeletons and the prince, plus whatever else is left once the enemy hits my lines, will do clean up. The largest weaknesses are probably fast lists and magic heavy lists, or lists with a lot of dispel dice, like Khornate or Dwarves... Or ones that can shoot even better. Any idea on how to help it cover those weaknesses?

Hmmm.... I should probably take out the tomb scorp for 10 skeletons or something.... It needs more hitting power.... Maybe replace the scorp and the skeletons with Tomb Guard....

your list right now has not got much hitting power so you need to keep the scorpion and i don't think many lists can out do your magic

Ok. Thanks. I think this will be the list I'll shoot for to start, then.

I would suggest that you drop both Archer units and replace them with Cavalry.

As the only good calvery we tomb kings have are chariots, I'm guessing you mean drop the skeleton archers from 3 chariots and then use the leftover points for somthing?

No, my buddy play with Normal skeleton cavalry and he does well with it. He uses his skeltons to enter in to CC with an opoonent. He then brings up a unit of his Fast Cavalry to attack the flanks or rear.

IMO you won't get as many kills with your Bowmen as your will with scaring your opponents with fear off the map and or running them down with your faster horsemen.

Generally TK cavalry suck.. He must be lucky. I would take chariots over cavalry any day with a TK army.

I would definatly suggest Chariots over cavalry, but he needs two core units. I personally feel that his army is slow, except for the Carrion, and that some cavalry would add speed and give him a chance to add extra models to a battle to tip the scales. I don't think that the Cavalry may not make its points back in battle but will make up in being an annoyance. Plus any army with Cavalry will try and flank your army to either get to your Magic users or to negate your rank bonuses of your Skeletons.
