Ok I'm getting back into warhammer and have brought myself a Tomb Kings army and yes I do have an awful lot of painting to do however I need to put together a 2000 points army that will be useable at my local Gws which will give me a reasonable chance of not being totally humiliated the first few games until I get the hang of the game again. The figures I have available are below
Settra The Imperishable
16 Horsemen (including command)
2 tomb swarms
13 tomb guard (including command)
16 skeletons with spears and shields (including command)
16 skeletons (with bows)
so the army List I have created so far is 1994 points but I'm not to sure if its any good if any one thinks that something would be better please tell me the list is
Tomb King equiped with a shield and the magic items below
Spear of Antarhak
Cloak of the Dunes
5 Chariots with (full command) and the Mirage standard (I'll be using Settra as
16 heavy horsemen (including champion) with the banner of the undying legion
16 Skeleton Warriors (with full command) with the War banner (spears, Shield and light
16 skeleton bowmen (with full command) Light Armour
1 Liche Priest attached to the bowmen with the Blue Khepra
13 tomb guard (with full command) with Icon of the sacred Eye
1 Bone Giant
1 Tomb scorpion
1 tomb swarm
so any thoughts

Hello Ryu, lets take a look @ your list. I'm just starting my Tomb Kings army as well, so take my advice for what you think its worth .
From what I see you have a Tomb King as your General and a Liche Priest as your Hierophant. The King's gear will make him effective at keeping himself alive, Liche seems a bit lacking though. Also, one of the main strengths of Tomb Kings is their magic. Your list currently has the Tomb King casting 2 incatations @ D6 power lvl and your Liche Priest getting 1 incantation @ 2D6 power lvl. Thats not really enough for a 2000 point game. At this point lvl I would definately take 4 characters, a lord and 3 heroes. Personally I like either a Tomb King, 0-1 Princes and 2-3 Liche Priests, or a Liche High Priest, 1-2 Liche Priests and 1-2 Princes.
First off, your Skeleton Warriors with sprears will likely be much more effective with Hand Weapons and Shields. Due to the very low WS of Skele's you will have issues killing things in close combat. I would reccomend going defensive with them, (the 4+ save is much better than the 5+ save) and beefing the unit up. Most people will not use a unit of skeletons meant for melee that is less than 20 units strong. The skeles will win combat through reselution, so use numbers and ranks to your advantage. Your archer unit looks fine as is. The heavy cavalry can be used as a mobile block of infantry possibly, but they still won't be as effective at killing things as other armies heavy cav. Not as durable as other armies heavy cav either. For the chariots, I'm assuming you meant you were going to use the Settra model as your champion. I would maybe suggest going 2 units of 3 chariots instead of one until of 5, your mobility will be much better and you will hit flanks easier. The swarm is ok, I'd try for a bigger unit or drop it though. Also for the most part, the only thing you need to give a unit is a standard bearer. The champions/musicians for the most part are not worth the points. The one exception of this is using a champion to protect a liche priest from challenges within a group.
The Tomb Scorpion seems to be a great unit. I'd definately keep him around. The Tomb Guard have the same problem your skeleton warriors have, not nearly enough models to survive for long in melee. Try to beef them up to a unit of 20. If you can find the points, try to add a unit of Carrion, they are great @ mage/war machine hunting. If you need some more punch or another flanking unit, add some Ushabiti, they are nice units and one of the best looking models in Fantasy.
The Bone Giant can be a great unit, he looks like a real tank on paper. I haven't seen/tried one yet, but i hope to soon. I know there is a very mixed opinion of them on this forum, so hopefully some otehrs can comment on him. Since you can take 2 rare units in a 2000 point game, I'd add a Screaming Skull Catapult as your second rare. This thing will work wonders for you.
Overall not bad. Try to get an idea as to what you want to do, how you want to play. That will help people give more tailored advice for your list. Also, just guesstimating the points (don't have my army book with me atm) I'm not getting 1994 points for your list. I came up with roughly 1400-1500 (I could be wrong). The only way I'm getting near 2000 is if I use Settra as he is listed in the back of the book. If that is the case, your list is illegal in a few ways. First, you can't use Settra in under 3000 point games (he takes up 2 Lord slots). Secondly, you can't have both Settra and a Liche Priest in the same list. Its part of his special rules.
Good Luck, hope this helps.
ok I'm unable to beef any of the units up (YET ) as I've just brought all the figures a Little while ago in one go
but I agree I do need more Magic but I'm not to sure that I can afford it points wise because even after adding it all up again I still get it to be 1994 points
what I'm thinking of doing is scrapping the spearmen and changing them to 1 unit of 32 bowmen because the liche priest is in the unit and he has the Blue Kehpra they all become immune to magic so hopefully they should be able to stick around for A While.
the bone giant I intended to use to charge the enemy then charge into the flank with the chariots or horsemen
the Tomb king is to be used to stop the hardest unit he is capable of dealing with or as a mage hunter/war machine destroyer
the tomb guard were to be used as a shield for the skeletons as I dont yet have enough of them in the unit to be worth while attacking with
both the horsemen and the chariots should be able to stick around slightly longer than normal due to their banners.
but I think I'm going to have to have another look at my lords section as I thought that I was only allowed 2 lords/heroes in a 2000 point army I've got to go re-read my army book
Hi. I've been playing Tombkings for some time and have about 4000 points now.
I seriously recommend you to get another tomb scorpion. Their "they came from below" special rule scares the shit out of any shooty army. I even killed Teclis with a Tomb scorpion a while ago.
Its Killing blow i extremely useful.
You should get ushabtis too. they add some serious fightingpower.
