Building on my 1000pt balanced list (click me!) (1000pt Balanced List), I decided to continue the general strategy and move up in points to 1500. However, the problem I immediately noticed was that once I add in chariots as my third special choice, there's not much left to take as I really don't put a huge amount of stock in TK's core choices.
However, I haven't yet played with the 'heavy' (heh) horsemen and they do seem to be potentially useful. Also, despite me not having a ton of faith in them, I do like the Tomb Swarm's utility so they got bumped up to 3. With a few extra bits such as a musician for the Skeletons, and some dispel scrolls, this brings the points total to 1500 (with the odd point to spare) and the list looks like this:
Tomb Prince – GW, LA, Golden Ankhra
Liche Priest – 2x Dispel Scroll
Liche Priest – Staff of Ravening, Steed
24 Skeletons – LA, HW & Shield, SB, Mus
10 Skeleton Heavy Horsemen – SB, War Banner
3x Tomb Swarm
2x Tomb Scorpion
3x Chariots – SB, Banner of the Undying Legion
Screaming Skull Catapult – Skulls of the Foe
I usually play my prince in a unit of chariots but I've decided to run it a different way, since a chariot charge tends to cause all kinds of issues for your enemy regardless of the presence of a prince, and since the Skeleton Warriors actually become a half decent unit with a GW prince in the front rank.
The only thing I'm possibly concerned about is a lack of core, holding, 'meat grinder' units, I just don't have the experience of 1500pts to know if these units will still be able to cut it in that way at this level of points.
Comments, questions, flames welcome.
Im really not a fan of heavy horsemen, in small units they die too easily, and imo in larger units like you have, the extra rank costs a lot of points considering they wont do a lot. Also chances are one may die before they get into CC, so then thats points wasted on an extra rank which you wont benefit from. I defeintely think you could benefit form a second block of skellies to take damage. I would say if you are keepng the cavalry though, drop the prince's LA and give the cavalry a musician.
Apart from that this list looks fine, and due to your cheap scorpions as special lots, you have a similar problem to me as what to add to get to 1500pts. I would say loose a scroll for the hieratic jar, that can be useful in tight situations.
Looking at it, there's always the possibility of dropping the chariots and horsemen and running another big block of skellies with another scorpion.
Alternatively, dropping the horsemen for a unit of skellies which would number 20 (a bit iffy, I dont like fielding just-about-getting-rank-bonus) units.
I'll give it a go with horsemen I spose since I aint tried them yet, but yeh, another solid core unit is sounding better.
