I played two games last night, one against Tzeentch chaos and one against Errantry war Brets.
On turn one of the Chaos game i took out 6 models in his warrior squad, the panic'd and ran back to his board edge, failed to rally and ran off the edge in turn 2. This squad also had 2 casters in it.
Against the brets i nailed his Errantry knights, or whatever they are, killed 3 (This man can make that damn 6 up ward save like no other) they panic'd and ran off the edge (They hadn't even moved yet.) This squad contained his level 2 damsel.
Basically i won the game on turn one, all because of SSC + Skulls of the foe. Simply amazing. The chaos player wanted to call it, but we played a couple more turns, until i landed a SSC shot in the center of his marauders which cause his chaos knights to flee.
The bret player played it out to the end, he tried his best, but the loss of a caster/alot of points at the beginning did it for him. I eventually just outnumbered him/won CC through CR and ran him down.
All in all, i will always have a SSC in my army, no matter what.
What point level was the game against Brets? Because a unit of 9 KE with a damsel should only be around 350 points...so its not that much of a crushing blow really...painful yes, but hardly game ending.
Saying that, at 2k there is a reason almost every TK list has either 2x SSC or 1 SSC and 1 Casket .
It was 1500 points.
He had something like this
16 questing knights
14 KE + Tooled out hero + Level 1 damsel
15 KE + level 2 Damsel
That was his army...
TP, GW, Collar
LP, Steed, Staff of Ravening
LP, Cloak of Dunes, Jar
20 LA/S/HW skellies with standard
12 Bowman skellies
4 Tomb swarms
3 carrion ( I was trying them out)
12 TG, Standard, champion, Banner of undying legion
SSC + SoTF
I played denfensively got my Tomb swarms in a turn after i wanted them to (To charge with the carrion) But The carrion/TS ended up tying up his lord unit for 2 turns, so i figure it was good. They each took out 2 knights. Allowing me to move units into posistion as well.
But i knocked out the 15 KE + Damsel on turn one.
Ive done similiar things before. The SSC is truely awesome, purely because of its panic causing.
Ive had a Bret player concede in turn 3. Once my SSC had made his knight unit with BSB and banner of the lady (expansive banner), and then torn his Generals unit to pieces, there really wasnt much left.
Get good at guesing and an SSC backed by priest's spells is a game winner against most armies.
The bret list looks a bit like he does not really know what to do with his brets. I do not think that it was good to take such large units of knights at this low level. It is no wonder he lost. Imagine if he instead had not three 'lances' but 5 or so! The SSC might not have been such the game winner if only 1/5th of his lances (instead of 1/3 of them) paniced. Good for you and I love the SSC but I would watch out for peggies in the future as they will pwn the crew quickly and then you will be SOL.
Indeed I have to agree...those huge lances of Knights really don't work well and are much too big. The biggest Knight unit I've ever used was a 12 man KotR unit with 10 Knights, a Lord, and a Damsel and that was at 2000.
Yeah, im not sure why he takes units like that, but he always does.
He plays the chaos player alot to, so i dunno...
Still SSC has won a place in my heart forever.
SSCs are definately a solid choice.
Yeah the SSC is pretty cool. My best achievement with it is hitting a full unit of great swords + a character on turn one, panicking them and watching them flee straight off the board.
I usually take 1 and a casket so the liche has something in range of his magic and it isn't just wasted.
<--- chaos player who conceded on turn 2.
that catapult is ****ed, he had 3 priests within range, ate up all my dispell dice on the first set of spells, then you got your double firing of the SSC
there is just no way to stop it :-/ its gonna go off, and hopefully it doesnt hit
