I was just wondering if anyone had any advice for a new warhammer player and a new Tomb Kings player at that. I've only played a few games against my friends who are also new (skaven and dwarves) and scrimped out victories both times. But I digress, any advice or tips are welcome and appreciated. However I should note that we're not very competitive players and are much more interested in having a good time and a laugh then overall domination.
Hey! Welcome to LO Good to have another TK player around, as always. I like the fact you play non competitive, it makes the whole hobby far more fun.
Do you have any TK stuff at the moment? You say you have played a few games, was that with your own (TK?) or someone elses army?
AS for starting out, first off you need the main Rulebook, im going to assume you have, or have atleast read it.
Then ofcourse you need a copy of the TK army book.
As for starting the army itself, i highly recommend the Tomb King batallion box. You get 32 Warriors, make 10 with bows, 19 with Hand weapon and Shield, a Musician, a Standard Bearer and a Champion, to possibly join the HW/S skellies.
The 3 Chariots are fantastic, build them all up, aswell as the skellies to go in them. You dont really want any command for them yet though. Possibly build a Standard for later on.
You get 8 Cav, though 8 is a weird number for their unit. Build 6 up as Light Cavalry. Keep the other 2 for spare parts right now, you wont need them.
After that, you need Characters. Go for the Tomb King/Prince blister (whichever pose you like the best for him) and the Liche Priest blister (one foot, one mounted)The foot one should be your Hierophant, and have the Cloak of the Dunes.
All that should get you to about 800pts I think. To expand to 1000, get hold of a Scorpion and a Screaming Skull Catapult.
right sorry I didn't say that I already had the rulebook and army book. But as of now I have:
TP w/ great weapon (pose)
Liche priest blister
20 skellies hw and shield full command
12 w/ bows
p.s. does anyone know if they only make 2 variants of ushabtis anymore? all I've found are the anubite ones and the close mouthed croc ones, both with the same weapon...
For your question Gamesworkshop makes four variants of the Ushabti. You can get a Croc, Anubis, Falcon, and a snake headed man. I've forgotten my egyption gods years ago, except Anubis.
Anyways for your army, you should get at least one more ushabti(I recommend 4 total). Since you can only have a minimum of three in a unit.
Also, play around a bit and enjoy the game. 1k point games are pretty fun. When you feel like it proxy some new units you have never used before to see if you want it in your army or not.
Anywho, Welcome to LO and the TK realm and enjoy the gaming
Indeed, there are 4 different Ushabti, with 4 different weapons, Theyre out there somewhere, good luck you could always do as i did and order direct.
As for what you have, thats a nice start 3 Ushabto hould be ok at 1K if tou want them there, although i would suggest as soon as ou hit 1.25K+, definitely consider a unit of 4. You may not quite ant the 3 Ush yet though, as with everything else you should have in a 1K list, there may not be room.
A note on gearing up Characters:
-TP with Clooar of Shapesh + GW
-Hierophant with Cloak of the Dunes, + Hieratic jar if you can afford it
-Mounted Priest is fine naked, although look at the Staff of Ravening, and definitely consider it at higher points.
