I just figured out that a friend of mine named chris plays warhammer and it turns out he told his friend Jackson about warhammer who told my friend, Ryan to play warhammer and Ryan told me to play warhammer. So we decided to play a game of warhammer this weekend. He plays a Chaos Army (specifically Khorne) and I need some tips on fighting Khorne, fast He owns 5000 points worth of Chaos which is about twice as much as the amount of tomb kings troops i have. This means that he obviously has much more experience than me in warhammer. So, any ideas on fighting Khorne? Just to give you an idea for how my army looks at 1100 points here it is.
1 liche, cloak of the dunes (hierophant)
1 liche, casket of souls
20 skeletons, hand weapons, shields, standard bearer
overall that is 1116 points, any ideas to tweak my list to be able to fight against a Khorne army, I know my friend won't be using magic so that should give me an upper hand. I may use a staff of ravening to take magic missiles to my advantage and i may want a hieretic jar to take advantage of magic. Please any GOOD ideas accepted, I will not forgive you Phoenix if you don't give me an idea, but that probably ain't happening any time soon I guess I can't ask for ideas any more than i have now and i bet you all are bored to death of me asking in this post:z but it wouldn't hurt to say it again, I NEED IDEAS!
... long post
Hehe, im straight on it dude, no worries!
More points, while it does make moe experiance likely, doesnt necessarily mean better. The Khorne army will be quite a nasty matchup for you here, at under 2K you may find your magic shut down quite often. Hence, you are going to have to rely on killing power and clever tactics.
Ok, looking at Characters first:
Prince is a must, and the standard Collar + GW to puncture armour and prevent you being punctured in return.
Hierophant, Cloak is a must, and Hieratic Jar a good idea too.
Second priest. Definitely a must. The staff or Ravening is an option, and although unlikely to hurt Warriors or Knights, it should be good for seeing off Furies or Warhounds etc. Possibly add a steed depending on Rare choice.
Ok, onto Core:
Skellies. One unit of these atleast is a must for some Static com res. Given the high Str of Chaos Warriors and Knights, your saves wont help much. So, keep it cheap, keep it shooty. Bows all the way. Go for 19, or 24 if you can to house your Prince. Music is a must, as now in 7th ed frienzied troops loose their frenzy and flee all in one turn when defeated, instead of the frenzy loosing hapenning next phase like before.
Standard and Champ is up to you, Champ may be good for handelling challenges and then being resurrected when dead.
Bows will also be useful for picking off the Warriors rank bonuses (only 1 or 2 kills needed for it to be effective) and also aiming at Furies / Warhounds etc as before.
Wouldnt bother with swarms here, too slow, too weak, too crumbley.
I would, however, take atleast one unit of 5 Lught Cav. No shooting to worry about, just use them to misdirect the Khornate units, especially Knights. If you can make them charge you, and then overrun into a large forest or other terrain, it can take them ages to get back on track.
Scrops, a definite yes. Atleast 1, 2 if you dont take Carrion. Look for Flank Charges on small Khorne units, especially Knights. If you gte the chance, look towards a suicidal charge with them on Khorne heros and pray for a KB. Risky, but if it works it pays off well.
Carrion. 3, If you want them, then either give up your Chariots or the second Scorp. Will be great for march blocking. Also again good for misdirecting charges.
Chariots, another good choice, will hurt when hitting small, non Chaos Knight units.
And now, the real pain. Ushabti, make a great armour smasher. If you can vause the knights into a misdirected charge then flank with these then they will fall pretty fast. 3 should do fine here.
And finally, Rare.
Now, you either go Casket, or SSC. Casket gives magic dominance, but restricts one Priest and will likely make the Staff on the priest less effective. Could hurt the enemy, but its likely he will save dispel dice for it.
SSC. My personal choice i think. So long as it works reliabley, and you are pretty good at guesing, then it has huge damage potential. They wont run being immune to psych as a result of Frenzy, but denying armour saves its your best bet for killing Knights, and with the S8 maybe aim for Chariots too if they get too worrying.
Ooh, and mount the priest with SoR with this option!
Hows that for tactics?

well, considering that I will probably face him this weekend I probably will not have the time, or money to get many of those units, another thing, he knows how bad cavalry is with tomb kings so i don't know how well they would work as a diversion, most likely he will end up targeting larger units (damn if only I had ushabti i would at least have some killing power. But i could substitute tomb guard as skeletons to make more bowmen units. but this is my first battle in a while (same with my opponent) so the purpose is to have fun. Nah! winning is better
Mmk... Give me a full list of everythng you have and ill make a list.
I may try to use shooting against him as much as I can considering he will have no shooting in his army especially since the hellcannon can only be used in 2000 point chaos armies. I also might want to try using scorpions and chariots for flanking, but if I lose I lose and I'll get some more models this year to boost my armies choices in units and to have larger units (my friend is egging me on to use my bretonians with all my tomb kings troops but I really would rather play with my tomb kings troops) but another funny thing is that his parents won't allow him to buy any more warhammer before he is in college (a full 5 years) so he's been trying to get me to use his money to buy him warhammer but that isn't happening. Ah well this will give me time to get my army as large as his army is. But for now i have some other goals. I'll post the results of the battle up here since this is my first battle in forever. Often i've gotten my guys set up and there's no more time to play so I'm pretty exited about this (pretty sad huh) just kidding. But if you need to know what i have heres my list of stuff
3 liche priests (i made a stand for my casket of souls priest so i can use him on the battlefield and at the casket)
1 casket of souls
1 carrion (i'm still working on getting a couple more)
1 bone giant
but this is my first battle in a while so win or lose it'll still be pretty fun. I will worry about getting new units when i have money to pay for them.
Oh I almost forgot, I have 13 tomb guard which i can use in place of skeleton warriors.
Ok, well if you see thsi in time then i think the best you can do against this Chaos, with what you have at the moment, is this:
Tomb Prince w/ Collar + Vambraces + GW
Hierophant w/ Cloak
Liche Priest @ Casket
19 Skellie bowmen w/ FC
5 Light Cav
Casket of Souls
Keep in mind facing frenzied Khorn units that it doesn't really matter if your friend knows what units are good or not...he has to charge the nearest enemy unit. Thus if the nearest enemy unit just happens to be 70pts of light cav sitting in front of a large block of woods...oh well, frenzie decides the charge, not the general. This also makes a single swarm using "It came from below" something to make your friend grind his teeth as his unit of uber knights goes charging off at a cheap swarm base and getting tangled in difficult terrain, or better yet...over-running of the board.
The only honorable options left to we combatants is seppuku or semantics...which amount to the same thing really.
Huh, I didn't know that ,I guess I could use that as a strategy, so thanks!
Alright, well I guess I'll use that list for now and in the future when I get more units I should be able to make a well rounded army to fight against Chaos!
