I'm just about finished putting together the Casket. Painting it will be another story.
Nothing really fancy on the casket itself, however I've decided to put the torso that usually sits on the bottom of the casket on the top of the casket instead of the skulls.
Once I have it finished and in the game I plan on placing it onto the board last and smack dab in the middle of the board on the front lines flanked by a tomb scorpion and a unit of 5 Light Cav. This will give it line of sight to almost all of the enemy.
I plan on using the Tomb King with 3 priests to get maximum magic phases in. 1 of my priests will be mounted, he will also have the staff of Ravening and be joined by 5 light cav. 1 of my priests wil have the cloak of dunes and the collar of shapesh (heirophant). the other will be with the casket.
My Tomb King will have the sword of might, armour of the ages and the golden ankhra. I will also equip him with a standard shield. This will give him 2 - 4+ saves.

Dont deploy the casket in your front lines, set it back, as far back as you can afford to go really whilst still having good LoSight. Flank it with units as youve said, skellie blocks are best, and set these a little forward and out of the Casket.
Loose the Collar from your Hireo. It has a short range, limiting his movement, negating the Cloak somewhat. Besides, if youre Priest is having to make saves, hes as good as dead already.
I dunno about putting the Casket way in the back Phoenix. As always with TK, it really depends on the rest of your army build. But I find that I really need the incantation from the Liche on the Casket for more things than Smite on a SSC, and if he's deep in my deployment zone, he'll be out of range. Hell, I've considered deploying my Casket 'backwards' so the liche is further forward and has better range with his spell.
Also, putting it further back can sometimes screw up your LOS for the Light of Death.
Lannymay, remember, the Light of Death effects all enemies that can see the Casket, not what the Casket can see.
