Hey guys, just joined LO and ive been looking though the forums at the different army lists and alot of things appeal to me. at the moment i have bought the battalion box set, an extra box of horsemen and a liche priest booster pack. i was wondering if you guys could help me out with a rough army list so i have a rough idea what i need to buy for my army. The armys i will be VSing the most will be either dwarfs dark elves or Ogre Kingdoms (sigh) playing a 1000 point match with Ogre kingdoms as tomb kings is brutal.
At the moment ive only won one of my matchs and that was against the dark elves and that was a pritty hard game. first time i VSed the Dwarfs he had 5 large squads of thunders (i thought it was a bit cheesey but haha i dont complain) and and i got wiped out by them, as for the OK's i just got mobed by them all, left right and center. having hardly any range and getting into combat with a brittle skele against a huge ogre? i dont think so haha.
anyway ive already got the army book so if you guys just tell me what kinda models i need ill flick though the book and see how it goes
Thanks heaps and heaps
(P.S. i prefer to play defencive)
5 thunderers? I'ld complain
I play dwarves and OK often. Screaming Skull Catapult(SSC) is good against both.
Against OK, I like Enkhail's Kanopi for all the remains in play gut magic. Also a Casket almost forces them to roll 2 dice, which can lead to miscasts, which are brutal. Never try and kill an Ogre. Out number him, use combat res, and make scary faces an watch him run. Nothing gives the kind of joy as watching an opponent fume about his Ogres running from sissy skeletons.(or maybe I'm just evil)
Against Dwarves, I already take 3 LPs or LHP and 2 LPs, plus all 3 bound items(Jar, Staff of Ravening, and Enkhail's) and the casket, so I throw down a hefty amount of spells, but a dwarf army can generate a rather large dispel pool. Beyond that I don't find them that tough(could be my opponent). He has even tooled his army to be immune to fear(he faces OK and TK, I don't blame him). The SSC and casket can do a number on his thunderers, let him sit there and watch them crumble. I believe we have the same range, but keep in mind he just sits there and fires, and you can advance without penalty and fire. I still recommend softening him from afar with you war machines, butits something to keep in mind.
Beyond that, I recommend Light Horse, Heavy horse aren't all that heavy, but ARE slow(no march).
Tomb Scorpions are good for enemy war machines, as are Tomb Swarms.
Ushabti bring in some heavy hitters, and in my experience can easily stand toe to toe with Ogres, and they can be healed.
A standard option for you Heiro is the Jar and the Cloak of the Dune.
King/Prince is pretty much personal taste, though the Flail of Skulls' double wounds sure helps against OK
Pheonix will pry give you many more pointers and ideas. He helped me.
For the greater good, my will be done!

Though you have some Cav too, i could get back to you later on adapting for those. Infantry would fit a general defensive list better, but as you have them, lets see what we can do
aawww thanks heaps guys, this info's great, sorry i hav'nt read that guide yet Phoenix but i will now :). I was hoping one of you to would help me out with this :) every time ive surfed these forums ive seen loads of help come from you guys :) oh and it doesnt matter if you cant fit the horsemen in mate, i will soon get a bit more money up nd fill my army with a few of the models listed above. just wanted to see what you guys thought about what models i needed for a defencive army /cheer
i personally have never played OK or Dark elves. dwarves though i like to run into them on the first turn. if you start you can get all his shooters tied down from turn one (no shooting for a while). best for the job are carrion and chariots (with a TP/TK). send in the units of skellies and ushabti for later to mop up his units. finally for the war machines a pair of Tomb scorpions or swarms.
