I don't know if this has been covered elsewhere but I haven't seen it yet.
For the casket of souls how does magic resistance work against it.
As every enemy unit that can draw line of sight to it is a target and some armes like Khorne Deamons will have magic resistance on every unit, how does the magic resistance work.
The highest magic resistance applies and is rolled for all units? (if one unit has magic resistnace 3 and the others have magic resistance 2 then 3 dice are used for the dispel atempt)
Each unit gets to add their dice to the dispel atempt?
Each unit makes a seperate dispel atempt and if they pass are unaffected but other units still might be?
Or does it not get countered by magic resistance due to not specifically targetting a unit?
Sorry if this creates confusion but in recent games we have been unsure on how to work it.
The Casket of Souls is a bound spell with a power level of 2D6 that affects every unit that can see it. If I recall correctly, each unit would get the magic resist that they have. If any one unit is able to dispel the Casket, then the entire spell is dispelled an no unit is effected.
Under the FAQ posted for TKs, it says that you use the highest Magic Resistance. You only ever get 1 chance to dispel. Stated from the FAQ:
"Magic Resistance does work against the Casket’s
Light of Death, so long as the model/unit with Magic
Resistance would be affected. Where there is more than
one unit with Magic Resistance that will be affected,
only one model/unit can add their extra dice (usually
the highest). In all other respects, the Light of Death
counts as magic that affects any enemy unit that can see
the Casket, so other effects would also work as they
would against any other magic. Having said that,
however, a magic item that ‘rebounds’ spells isn’t going
to have any effect – the Light of Death only ever affects
Hope that helps.
Yeah use the rules from the BRB for magic resistance when multiple is in one unit, the highest applies and the lower is wasted. S if the army has a bunch with MR 1, and a unit with MR 2, then they get 2 extra dice to help dispel it.
Which is why, as a TK player, it is sometimes very useful to have a fast unit fly in front of MR things and block their LoS to the casket so you can attack the rest of the army, or at least eat more than 1 DD.
Okay thank you all for your replies.
We have been doing it slightly wrong I think but oh well.
