Welcome to Librarium Online!
I am working on an army and I ended up going less magic heavy. I keep looking at my Ushabti and noticing 3 of them is 1/5th of my army for 3 guys. I know they are tough and I love the models and want to play them. So to round out my army I am going to use.
Tomb King with great weapon and 19 skeletons with shield and full command
Liche with the Cloak
20 Archers with command
Would this make a good army? 2x Strong blocks of troops with the carrion to warmachine hunt and the tomb scorpion and Ushabti to cover the sides of the army. What do you all think of this?
I guess this really comes down to what do you think of Ushabti, I love the figures but I am not sure what to do with them.
I think that this might be better in the Army list Forum...
First thing is that you can't take a TK in this list if its less than 2000pts
Personally I think that you will need more magic, mainly because the army will be that slow without that most armies would be able to keep away from you.
Ushabti are great although in 3s they just don't feel as though that they cut it and 4 is the ideal number, that being said I am not sure how they would fare in battles of this size and I think could be more dependent on when you are facing ect.
Those are just a few things, generally TKs normally struggle at less than 2000pts as they don't have the magic available to them to make them a more effective force. THis is because the basic skeleton warrior isn't the best unit in the game by a long shot, that said in big numbers they can be great...
Don't know if that will help hope it does.
There is nothing more annoying when your Wyches with Plasma Grenades get "Always strikes First" for their combat drugs!
I meant a tomb prince for the main guy. I guess I am just wondering how effective the Ushabti would be in a 1000 point game. I am just starting and I would perfer to keep around 1000 points due to money etc. Also would 5 carrion be a good number? I see them hitting from behind or to the side with 10 str 3 attacks, it's more then an average unit get's in a single round and since they cause fear I would hope it would make the enemy break so they could chase them down.
3 Ushabti should do fine at 1K. They may be expensive but with 2 Priests and enough magic to back them up they can be worth it.
I like how you describe skellies as ''strong'' btw Think id have to argue and say 2 large weak blocks of troops.
Drop the Archers Champ. Id also suggest to you to run just 20 bowmen (well, 19 with the Prince in) and drop the other unit for options elsewhere.
Also lose 2 Carrion.
Pick up an SSC. Force the enemy to you and set up a strong defence based around it. Ushabti lead with the charge, and bowmen in combat form where you need numbers.
Add a Tomb Swarm for your second Core. Use for ICFB, or protection from flying charges.
Also I would suggest to always put the ushabti in the middle unless your flanks have no obstacles. I've noticed in my previous games that they get into combat far too late if i put them off to one side. Put them next to your main skeleton force and move them both in the same direction.
I put them on the side and never got them into good combat. I think I will squeeze them between the 2x units of skeletons. Would you suggest I put the skeletons in a 10x2 line infront to protect them and then reform and charge using the 2x lich priests? Maybe use the Hiretic jar so I can get a garented attack as no one has that many dispel dice at 1000 (7ish)
10x2 is the usual form, then just reform in your move phase and be ready to charge when possible. You may want to reform a turn earlier, as 3 charges with just magic can be difficult.
