I just picked up the batallion box and I was wondering, how many of the skeletons would you make archers? I have 32 and currently I have a previous box of 16 made into warriors with shields and handweapons. I am thinking a unit of 20 skeletons which will leave me with 28 skeletons to do with as I please.
Also, I have looked though the forms and I have seen nothing on the heavy calvary vs light. The point value is acutally resonable because a normal knight with a 2+ armor save is 25+ points and these are only 16 even though it's only a 4+ armor save. I am not sure what I should assemble them as! Well thanks for the help!
Well... we have already mentioned our opinions on what you should do with skeletons. Bows. 2 Units of 20 (in my opinion). But.. you made 20 with bows, 16 with shield and hand weapons. YOu have 28 left over? Finish off that shield/handweapon unit to 20.. turn 4 of your 28 into those. Then I'd say make another unit of archers. OR.. you can hold off, and wait for other people's opinions. It's really about your playstyle.
Then as far as your cavalry goes... build Light Cavalry.
They're cheaper so you can field more of them.. they're light cavalry so they can get out of harms way very easily.. they make a decent hiding spot for a mounted liche priest.. more bows = more shots = more chance to take out ranks of opposing units.
I personally only use 5 light cavalry.. and even still I don't field them very often.

Saim-Hann Eldar: 5000 Points
at least 20 archers.
i'm the abnormal TK player in that i <3 my Spearmen also i would sugest making that HW/S unit into 24+ (if you go 24 they allign them 6x4, 25 5x5, 28 7x4, 30 6x5) increases your dmg and keeps alot of ranks for static bonus.
what i would sugest is making a music/banner from your spares for when you want to replace/modify a current unit
eg make your 24 skellys without command (maybe a slightly cooler one that can be a champ in a pinch) then you can put in your banner/music when you need it in either the Archer or HW/S unit.
Painting: 20 quarrelers
Make the cav Light, you should only really need 6 at most for now, so you can leave 2 in bits safely.
If you already have 16 HW/S warriors... What command did you make with that?
Ignoring command, id say round that unit of 16 up to 24, and that should do for them.
That leaves you with 24. Make 20 bowmen. 4 left, go with FC for the HW/S unit, and a Musician for the Bowmen.
I may have stated that wrong. I have a unit of 16 and I just finished pushing the unit upto a full 20. I am thinking bows for the rest. Now as for the calvary I figured I could field 5-6 in a 1000 point game. I just can't figure out how to make them worth their points. 6 = 2 hits on average, 1 wound, like .5 with standard armor saves. I can't see that as a good use of so many points.
As with all TK bowmen, their bows arent what does the damage. Tactically useful for removing the odd rank etc, their main strength is in their other uses. For skellie bowsm this is more obvious in terms of static res.
Light Cav are a good cheap, fast unit to have on the flanks. Redirect Frenzieds into terrain, house a LP w/ SoRav, general flank annoyance. Just a nice option for a cheap core unit.
Thanks to all of the tips I have really redone my army. I think I should post it but it's completely different from how I imagined the tomb kings.
Quick question, i know the box says it comes with 16 with shields and 16 with bows...does it come with the option of making 32 bows? im gonna be picking one up in a few days, just curious
I used 4 with sword and shield to make a total of 20 in my box I got of 16 so the rest for me are bows. I wanted a single unit that would be more close combat. The box is a nice set I just finished my first chariot. I should have all 3 done tomorrow so I will have 2 units. I am still thinking of going heavy calvery. I like the idea of 'hard' (For skeletons) hitting units plus they are only 16 points when most are 24ish points in other army. Yes my save is only 4+ and weapon skill is only 2 but for 8 points thats not a big deal.
