Welcome to Librarium Online!
I will soon be playing a game against a friend of mine who plays hordes of chaos. I lost a game to another friend of mine who plays a Khorne army. I found out that my scorpions didn't stand a chance against a unit of chaos knights and that light horsemen can hardly be counted as a distraction against a mighty chaos army. My Casket of Souls had no effect against a chaos army with leadership off the charts and my arrows didn't even penetrate the thick armor of the warriors. So basically my first battle against chaos was a disaster. Now I want to have a better list to combat chaos this time so I'm going to make a decision on whether i should go for a balanced or defensive TK list for this battle. In case you were wondering I have the following models;
Liche Priest on skeletal steed
Liche Priest with Casket of souls
Liche Priest on foot
46 skeleton warriors
13 tomb guard (that includes command)
2 tomb swarms
Screaming Skull Catapult
2 tomb scorpions
and that's it for my models. i'm leaning towards a balanced list because my archers in my defensive list really couldn't do very much against chaos knights, warriors etc...
should go into army list forums....but that means i'll have to make a 3k list.
W/L/D tomb kings
0 0 0
enemy generals slain = 0
enemies killed by the curse = 0
standards captured/stolen = 0/0
Stick with a defensive list, only give it an offensive element... so yea, balanced Just make sure you launch your offence at the last moment, wait until your ranged offence has done maximum damage.
Youll need an SSC to punch through armour. Large units of skelies for numbers, but make them bowmen as they are cheaper (and the high Str of Chaos will all but negate your armour anyway if you took it) Scorps can take on Chaos Knights, judst be sure to charge in the flank and hope for a Killing Blow. If its Khorne youre against, a unit of Light Cav should be useful for leading the frenzied units astray. Chariots are nice.. but the good armour negates their effeciveness. Run a Prince (w/ GW and CoS) Hiero (w/ CoD) and a Priest on Horse.
Write up a list and post in in the army list forum. See my Beginners guide to TK for further info.
You need light horsemen or some bowmen, one unit of chariots with a prince with them should be an effective counter charge and a unit of warriors as an anvil. oh and a catapult would be good too.
upgraded catapults i found are wicked against blocks of chaos infantry, if u guess right splat oh look they ran away! do not forget try just a thought a unit of 3-4 ushabti as a flank unit nasty as and can hold their own to!
