Well, I have my 1k point TK army good to go for the most part, just need to get my scorp. In the meantime I have been trying to decide on where I want the focus on for my 2k army. I have already made a King led army and posted it and I was pretty happy with it, but now I am having some second thoughts.
I cant decide between a Liche High Priest or a Tomb King to be my lord. On the one hand I get a good close combat character that gives me chariots as core. On the other I get a Priest that lets me throw tons of incatation dice at the enemy. They both give me 2 incantions, however the priest knows all the incantations and has triple the dice.
What do you guys and gals use and why?
"I am the architect of fate!"
Personally, i prefer going with a King. Its not just Core Chariots... but it massively frees up your special options.
Tomb king, when you get him into combat he is going to suck up minimum 2 dispell dice, no player wants that extra attack going on his unit, especially if hes on foot with Destroyer of Eternities. Plus if you keep a priest close to his unit you are going to be pretty much guaranteed to get off that spell.
I play mainly a defensive list however, usually no chariots and i let my opponent come to me, so my tomb guard unit is almost always within range of all 3 of my priests. I love this combo and it can tear up anything
a tomb king leading a unit of tomb guard and two priests near by kicks! my bro plays dark elves and even with their new list they are finding it hard to cope against them! i do like using a casket tho for one priest as its so nasty against horde armies! but tomb king all the way!
I own and use both myself......... they're both really really good......
So I can't really advise one over another.......
A King can be rock Solid and ram through about anything......
A Lich High Priest gives you a stronger Heirophant and two more higher powered all important Incantations...........
In the end it comes down to waht you prefer and how you play.
Generally speaking in my other fantasy armies, to have a strong magic phase you need to have a lord level caster, where with tomb kings you can still have a very strong magic phase with a tomb king, and an incredibly strong combat phase...for the point cost, tomb kings are one of the best lord choices around.
If you're learning to use TK I find the LHP is far more forgiving and gives you very reliable magic. After you have got the basics down the king adds alot more flexibility to your army generally by freeing up special slots, having range on his mwbd and allows for a more mobile force with more chariots
This is what I like to see.
Good healthy debate. Shows a variety in the Armybook and that we aren't all the same.
I've only ever used one unit of Chariots....... but even then a King does marvelously free up the special slots...... maybe if I used a rare slot they wouldn't be as hard pressed but I doubt it.
However some of my best lists have been HLP and I've seen several good tournament builds using them.....
Both ideas are equally valid.
Most of the tourney builds I've seen lately have been Tomb King lead. A few have been Chariot Legions, with a sprinkling of the Tomb Guard unit O' Doom list as well.
