Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey guys, hope your'e all well
I'll cut tot he chase. I'm a bit of a fickle player, always thinking of different armys, but I currently have some Tomb Kings, and yet to play with them.
Now what i have equals only UP to roughly 1000pts. This mainly the Battalion along with Tomb King/Prince and Liche Priest models. And a small group of Tomb Guard. I also went and bought the Casket but i doubt that would be of much use for this small pointed game set.
Although as I said I can be fickle, TK are always lingering in the back of my head and the whole idea of them highly appeal to me
So I hear that Tomb Kings truly shine at 2000pts +.
My main question is, using what I have and more than likley being confined to a max. of 1000pts, could I play with this and get a real feeling of what its like to play TK.
Will I be able to grasp the basic concept and idea of how to play TK under 2000pts?
Also, would a 1000pt game benefit me more if I had, say, a SSC to be a part of that 1000pts?
Just gonna link you to HERE (A Beginners Guide to Tomb Kings), may be of some use
As for the SSC, definitely, and with the casket too you'll be well on your way to a decent 2K army.
TKs are an average army, until, as you say, we get to 2000pts. ''Shine'' may be a bit of an understatement, its more a case of being one of the best fantasy armies, definitely in the top 5 (3rd in my books i think)
As the army is so reliable, and once you have learnt how to play your army perfectly then it will do exactly what you want it to each and every time
Best thing to do is just to get out and play, whatever the points limit, experiment with different units and army styles and setups, see what appeals to you most and then build on it
Yeah I think I will get some game testing in as soon as I can so I know what to spend more on
Would it be preferable to have the SSC included in a 1000pt list though?
Ive actually had a lot of success with TKs in 1000 points too, I know people say they are great in 2k...but take a ton of chariots in 1k(10 in total, 3 units of 3 and a prince on chariot..hell maybe 2 prince on a chariot) and watch it shine too
TP, chariot, Lt Armour/Shield,Flail
LP, Cloak, Neferra
Chariotx3, SB, BoUL
Under 1K by about 5 I think
Whenever you play with tomb kings at 1k, your likely to be outnumbered. The two heroes you have to take are good but on there own they aren't that good. I was surprised how good a tomb prince is in combat and he has 3 wounds and toughess 5 which makes him very hard to shift. In 1k points my advice is to go for 2lich priests working on an army similar to this one:
Tomb prince, Great weapon, collar of shapesh 129
Liche priest, COD 135
Liche priest, Skeletal steed, hieretic jar 148
20 Skeleton warriors, shields, Full command 185
10 Archers 80
9 Light Horsemen 126
Tomb Scorpion 85
Screaming skull, SOTF 110
Its a decent list that is quite balanced and should do well against most people and has done for me.
Ah cool. cheers dudes Just a few more pieces to buy and I'll be set to get testing and playing
Due to time constraints at my club I usually have to play 1000pts
I've been using two liche priests and a prince.
I realise this is charcter heavy but I don't see any other way to make sure you get your incantations off at 1k.
I also went for a three pronged attack
prince with a unit of chariots
supported by a liche with light horsemen
a liche with the crew of the SSC
A tomb scorpion
While it was by no means devastating (I think it had 50/50 success rate) it let me get a feel for what I wanted and I'm currently working on expanding this based on what I learned.
Thanks for advice so far
The idea of using 2 LP's is appealing although I understand the point usage using both take up.
In saying that; I know amost people say LP with CoD is standard set up, which i can clearly understand, but if taking the other LP do you think it would be worth giving him anything other than the skelly steed, such as the Jar or is that only because theres nothing else ot spend the left over points on?
