Welcome to Librarium Online!
Has anyone else noticed that many armies have a unique 'magic item' that's specific to them?
Everyone has common magic items, magic weapons, magic armor, etc.
But only Wood Elves have Spites/Kindreds, Vampire Counts have Bloodline Powers, Warriors of Chaos and Demons of Chaos have Marks, Bretonnians have Virtues, Lizardmen have Spawnings, and even Dark Elves have the Khainite items.
Currently there's no such thing for Tomb Kings, but I thought, what possibly could there be that would be a cool unique magic item boost that you could give to your guys?
My first thought was 'Different Curses!'. But maybe that won't go over so well, since it's backloading, and may only work when you lose your character - and nobody wants that.
But what about embalments? Different kinds of embalmings that cause our characters to have interesting new abilities.
At any rate, this is all just wishfull thinking at the moment, and maybe should just be another post on the 7th ed wishlist.
So what do you think?
That could be cool!
Or maybe some sort of (curse) effect that activates while the Hero is alive, like VC Vamp Powe... NO! Bad phoenix!
If they ruin TKs too by giving us 200pts ''magic item'' allocation then im gonna have to take serious action... ruining a perfectly good army...
Eventho the Ogres already have access to this I would like to see titles as a unique magic items choice.
I think that would fit perfectly with the TK lore because they love giving their Kings and Priests a million names and titles (i.e. Settra with his 70+ titles and names)
Ofcourse this would be hard to differentiate from whatever the Vampires have now but their bloodline powers seem to focus more on giving them Special Rules, maybe the Tomb King Honorary titles could be more focused on stat boosts and the core list?
Here's a couple off the top of my head:
(---- is whatever name you decide to give your character)
--- the Undying (+1W)
The Vulture of Justice, ----- (Carrions are now a core choice)
---- the Sovereign (+1 to S, WS, T but cannot join units)
When i as thinking about active curses a few posts ago, i was considering something like ''all enemies within X" get -1S, -1WS, etc. This would either be priced so that it was too expensive to use reasonably, or so cheap that it would be broken (cheesey). Neither is good, but knowing GW they'd go for the latter.
Still, as with my Beastmen ''book'', we could always try and write some additional TK rules
(Did consider this a few weeks ago, but the necessary changes for TKs can be summed up in very few lines, unlike Beasts lol)

The only good embalment idea I've thought of so far (and really it's already been done with Khalida) would be something like:
Asp's Embalment: 20 points
Gives your character immunity to poison, and all attacks from the character count as poisoned attacks.
The problem with the idea of Embalments, and any other unique magic item selection (Spites/Virtues/Big Names/Marks) is balance.
Most players will keen on the best bang for the buck and then only take that in their army. It's a challenge making everything worth its points and attractive to take.
I guess it's the same with other magic items too (weapons, armor, etc).
Actually we (the Lizzies) no longer have Sacred Spawnings as of the new army book, however the Slann was weakened a bit (he can miscast is the major thing) and drastically reduced in points / slots and given an interesting set of "Disciplines of the Ancients" which he can take up to four of in addition to any magic items/banners. The first one is free, and they do everything from allowing him to reroll miscasts to making him cause terror.
Tomb Kings really are about due to be redone late this year or first half next year so perhaps we'll see something like that in the new army book for them? This is a decent idea for sure.
I've been busy over the past weeks writing a unofficial armybook update <----- I know, i'm sad, and one of the things i've included means TK's are more customisable. Blessings of the gods.
I agree. Is it close to being a finished piece by any chance?
