I brought a TK battalion box awhile back and did some painting but I would like to finish the battalion and start playing. I have been hearing rumors about TK getting a new army book. I was wondering if I should wait on collecting and painting until after the new book comes out, or if I should just keep on collecting and painting the units I have with hopes of being able to still use last edition models? Also, when are TK supposed to get a new book, and do you guys think there will be drastic changes with units being added or omitted? Sorry if this is answered elsewhere in the thread, I appreciate all replies.
It may be a while (6-12months) til our new book, but no models should be made obsolete. Most will likely only be made plastics. Hopefully the book will just be refined (and not in a bad way like Beasts ) and we get to keep most things as they are...
Get your army painted and going and figure out how it plays. When a new book does come out, you'll already have a good base of models, and can easily add any new stuff. That said, the rumor mill has been spitting out a lot recently, even though GW has clamped down. 6-12 months is what the mill is spitting out. I'd lean towards early next year though for TK..
Thanks so much for you replies to this thread it really helps me out.
I was in the same position as you a month or two ago. I went ahead, and ordered about 3k points worth anyhow.
The way I see it, even if there is a major overhaul of the book, you are still going to need skellies, you are still going to need LPs, etc. Even if 30% of your army is rendered less playable (and I think that's highly unlikely seeing how low-powered TKs are now and how the army book power creep is going) that's maybe $100 of stuff you might need to replace. Is the next year of playing with worth $100 to you? It is to me.
Finally, even if they do redo models, they don't redo the entire line normally. I would expect maybe a plastics kit for scorps or SSCs, maybe new skellies, maybe new LPs. You will still be able to use your old models, and a lot of what you have won't be replaced anyhow.
I say go for it. You'll have some experience with the army when the new book comes out and you will be able to make better choices about your new army list because of it!
I think the units that would most likely get upgraded would be Tomb Guard for sure, Bone Giant and probably ushabti to some sorta plastic perhaps.
as for the book, like most people I expect it late this year, early next, id say november at the earliest. Hopefully by then GW North America will have tournaments scheduled again lol.
i think i would agree with washout on the model composition, you have to get at least 3 ushabti to be able to play em maybe theyll put some ushabti and carrion in 3 pack plastic boxes. the giant will likely be statistically changed minorly. and the model will change HOPEFULLY -_-. I'd love to see what they will make TG look like after seeing the new grave guard and VC skellies.
