So i tried this setup for my King the other day and i was pleasantly surprised with the results and was wondering if any of you guys have done it before.
Tomb King: Cloak of Dunes, Scorpion Armor, Spear of Antarhak, shield.
King has a respectable 4+ save and strength/toughness 5.
I used him to fly to a unit i wanted to tie up, something expensive, the kings base is so small that normally he only has 2 guys striking back at him, with the Scorpion armor he only ever takes max 1 wound from combat ress and with the Spear he can heal those wounds up.
I used him this way to tie up a Saurus warrior unit and they just couldnt take him down, and since that was his second of only 2 block units it hurt him bad.
What do you guys htink, ever used yout TK this way ?
I don't think I'd ever use the CoD on a melee hero. You can't charge with the CoD. Seems counterproductive to me...
Never used it, but it is a pretty well known setup. Some people like it for fun, which is great But in most competitive lists it tends to be a waste of points allowance, as well as not being able to Cloak the Hiero.
For a variant, how about swapping out the CoD, putting the TK in a chariot and adding the Shield of Ptra? Not as mobile as with the Cloak, but at least you get some impact hits on the way in, you take advantage of the extra STR on the charge with the spear, get the save down to 3+, and the shield adds even more survivability.
I originally planned on making my king have a ridiculous armor save with a combination like that! However I don't see the reason why you'd need a terminator-like king going around when you could strengthen your magic or your soldiers?
