Welcome to Librarium Online!
I seem to be putting up really noob posts lol. my defence is i have the book and lots of models but have not played them nor have i seen them played, mostly the reason im starting them after i finish m skaven. the other being that the fluff is smegging awesome.
which is better for skells? bows are very cool and look awesome, but have no armour, but are cheaper and more defensive.
units of 20....10 wide? 20 shots on a hill? (the bane of skirmishers and light infantry blocks)
hw, la, sh. 9 pts a piece, but a very respectable 4up save, and with BoUL they seem to be an amazing roadblock, especially if you shove a prince in there.
is it play style that dictates the equipment or is there generally a better option for them, in smaller or bigger games?
any replies much appreciated
This always comes down to play style, but if you think about it, skeleties arent very tough and most of the time your save is going to be negated due to lough toughness. TK str isn't in our saves or toughness, but in our ability to hold like a giant bone wall and if you take one down, the lich priest raises them back up.
I say units of 20 bows, 10 in a line, reform in anticipation of the charge and let something else come and actaully beat what ever charged the bow skeles.
But there are plenty of ppl who swear by HW/SH as the way to go. BUT IT IS WIDELY AGREED.. NO SPEARS.
Bow Skellies also benefit from Smiting from almost turn one. Making the Prince's and King's MWBD more useful from early on. Otherwise their MWBD Incantation can go to waste for a couple turns.
It does come down style though, I like skellie bowman because they can knock of some ranks at range and arent actually that much worse than HW/S skellies in combat. That and the fact that they are cheaper, which allows me more room for extra skellies and gear for my characters.

ok. well i think im getting 80 skels so ill build 40 with bows and see if i love them or not. I was originally thinking hws due to me playing skaven and the 4up save coming in handy, but then skels are 4 points more expensive (with LA) and they also dont need to win combat, as they aint afraid of no ghost.
I have 60+ skellies and was going to of only 20 with HW/S but my first game ended up with that block of twenty with a GW/CoS Prince tying up and eventually breaking a unit of 20 Black orcs with Boss, Big Boss and Shaman. That 4+ is still pretty decent against most other rank and file troops up to strength 4 or so.
Now, I'm no so sure if I want one or two big blocks of HW/S skellies.
yeah ive seen them used one by the only guy that played tk for a week with hws and swore by them. but he also put his heiro in a 20 strong unit of tomb guard....with staff of ravening his only item.
now im not that clever, but that seems to me to be daft
I do not know much about TK but I am curious why people seem to love bow skullies? Having BS 2 and only bows seems kind of weak. Is there some special rule that I am missing?
Its BS 2, but our skellies never have any negative modifiers for shooting, so they always hit on a 5+ no matter what. They could move, shoot at long range, and be firing at skirmishers and they would still hit on a 5+.
That and they are both cheaper and not much worse in combat than HW/S skellies.

a large unit of bowmen on the advance gets to fire without penalty while moving right? That makes them a very dangerous "anvil", especially if your Chariots are your "hammer" to your formation.
Ya I can see that being pretty good. The more I read about this army the more I like. I think I have found my second army. Just gotta finish the first one now
