Everyone always give the Tomb King a fancy set up with a DoE or Flail of Skulls, then the Collar. But how about some less used or common items in combination that may just be as effective.
First the stats of a Tomb King are pretty good, and sporting one more wound than normal lords. Using a cheap set of items and still getting the most out of him. how about:
Sword of Might, Collar of Shapesh, Shield of Ptra, and any of the Magic Talisman available. I mean Sword of Might will have use hitting hard, +2 most of the time and -3 to armor. Collar Shapesh allow the King to bounce wounds off whatever unit he's in. and the Ptra, in the case of fighting an strong character, and if wound will give him the upper hand when he's hitting on 2s. Any of the talisman will further bloster the unit with magic resist, psycho tests, or further bonus to a chariot. Or if you feel devious, use the Brooch of the Great Desert. They may ask how many dispell scrolls ya got, or they assume the average is 2 and not more, pop this mofo when the time is right after all scrolls are gone! Sounds like a great options to me, so let me know if have any uncommon set-ups in your army.
The common combos are common for a reason, lol. But its true, there are a number of awesome items often overlooked I used a King w/ Sword of Might and Collar for a while. Missed the S7 though so i went back to my mundane GW.
The common items seen on Kings are:
Destroyer of Eternities, Flail of Skulls, Spear of Antarkhak, Collar of Shapesh.
There are a number of quite awesome items that do often get overlooked:
C+F of Radiance, Blade of Setep, Sword of Striking/Might/Battle (Striking +Sacred Eye anyone?? )
Death Mask of Kharnut - Terror!? Yes please!
Vambraces of the Sun - sometimes the smallest of gems can turn the tide of a battle...
Icon of Rulership - Risky, but a lone King hitting your flank will hurt...
Crown of Kings - This effectively means that an opponant will need to attempt a dispel attempt on 2D6 for each MWDB incantation!
Items that (i think) should never be touched:
Scorpion Armour - Plan, we go out, we fight, we lose. Err... general? *Chops off advisor's head*
Shield of Ptra - The Kings needs to MAKE a save. Would be great if the enemy had high init and we had good saves. Otherwise, the E.Shield is cheaper and better...
Serpent Staff (Priest only i know) - i do kinda wana find a sneaky use for this though.. lol.
you dont understand, in conjuction of the collar it would work, cause a wound is taken (just transferred), and its there as item for fighting againt characters (better than a regular shield). plus the the lord will have a +4 save after all is said is done with a LT armor, shield, and then combination, THEN the collar! so it would work well againt standard troops, where its normally str3 or 4.
i see a save needs to be taken. Well honestly, it seems like a good idea, suppose he was horse back (or a chariot) than it would work, with an armor save of +3, another char would have to be more than strength 6 to negate armor. so armor save taken and char or models now hit at WS1. Its a good character hunt idea, you have to admit.

Besides, if your in a chariot, then enemys are going to attack the chariot not the character, so the above point is moot really.
And relying on making an armour save for your tactic to work is never a good idea.

If you mean icon of the sacred eye it pwns in chariot units, gives all the skellies and the horses +1 to hit.
Lone King in Chariot charging 25 (5x5) empire spearmen in the flank.
Empire have 3 ranks, banner, outnumber + wounds
King has... wounds
Add the Icon:
Empire have Banner and Outnumber + Wounds.
King has Flank + Kills.
Rear charge for +2 and you're even And then you win on wounds lol. Add Spear of Antarhak maybe? And/Or Chariot of Fire (cant remember if it clashes with the icon off the top of my head)
Yeah I meant Icon, as in Rulership. Refering to the item by its first word as I wrote it. I think the Sacred Eye be better suited with the Chariot of Fire and in a group for full effect.
