Playing lizards at 2000 pts when i get my tk up and running. ive beaten the player with daemons, wood elves, dark elves, and skaven, and now im gonna see how the tk go.
problem is, he'll be taking a slann and 3 engines....'cause thats not an overreaction lol.
any way i can beat them? i was thinking throwing 3 scops into his temple guards arse and just munching them down, maybe DoE one engine and catapulting the others to death, making sure i get the right range by smiting my 2 units f bowmen next to it (if he's bringing the cheese, so can i ) they are ld 7, so perhaps the basket? i could always take a hlp and try and work though his 10 dispel dice
any help would be much appreciated
"accidently" knock over the gaming table with his stegs on it.....
"accidently" steps on the stegs, trips, and sues for millions of mode- I mean dollars >_>
Can't say what would be useful against him, havent fought new slann yet. Scorpians are nice, since they can hurt anything with the combo of poison and kb.
I'd actually forego a Casket this time and take a second catapult. Casket is based on Ld checks, LM make their Ld checks more often than not. Perhaps some carrion to fly around and peck some eyes out or set up to catch fleeing units. Do you know if he's using skinks or more sauras? Actually maybe even a bone giant, he be able to lay the smack down on the engines, i think...
Eh, if there are saurus there won't be too many with 3 engines and a slann. That is like 1600 points (~200 more if there are temple guard for the slann) in those 4 lads, clearly it is the core of the army and you need whatever you can that can bring them down. It is not a matter of being able to ignore them and take down the rest of the army because there is basically nothing else. Kinda sucks, it destroys the big need of the TK to dominate the magic phase with unstoppable incantations.
Scorpions will be good. Hit the flank/rear of the Temple Guard if they are there and bring them down from the back, should give you access to the slann early. If he is on his own, they will be good to burrow up and attack him. He will most likely be ethereal so you won't touch him, but maybe you can win with static combat res or draw and hold him back.
How to take out the stegadons now? Carrion are nice, the steg base is large you need to charge in and target all attacks on the priest since he is the weak point and once he dies the engine can't be used. Actually now I think about it, that is probably a nice use for scorpions as well if the Slann is on his own. Be careful of burning alignment though given its advantage against undead. I would also point catapults at the stegs, it is all one model so I'm pretty sure if you hit them it hits every part of the model (both crew and steg) and there won't be much else to target. Try to get a double shot with them if you can, especially once your scorps/carrion can kill a priest or two.
Ushabti might be nice to kill stegadons as well. Good luck with it.
Becareful near that Slann
My friend always buys the option to know a single lore
LORE OF LIGHT
Cleansing Flare goes off often
I don't know if that player will do that but i would bet its a high chance
The casket is invaluable
-1 can help so much its sick
Plus the dispel dice used on it frees up your other magic
and if your lucky, and they try to dispel it, roll 1's and it goes off
have fun hurting some stuff
For those stegadons
Killing the Priest is most important, and if i remember correctly the get a 2+ armour save
So, You need high strength/Something that Negates Armour Saves/Killing blow
A Tomb Guard unit, with the Undying legion can hold up a stegadon, and hopefully Killing blow the Priest on top
That is going to be a tough game
You are right, the priest gets a 2+ save. BUT it is only t2 and only has 2 wounds, hit it with enough attacks and it is going to die anyway. Doesn't matter if they are high strength or not, it is going to kill the priest eventually. And definitely worth the possibility of sacrificing some hunters given how important the priests are to the engines, without a priest they lose 3 levels of magic AND all the abilities of the engine.
The only problem is that you don't get a lot of time to throw a large amount of attacks.
That engine is going to go off every turn, which can hurt a lot.
Stegadons are still strong even without a priest on it
The attendants still have +2 and have poison making them fairly annoying.
I reckon assasinate the priests. King in chariot with flail of skulls and blue khepra. Prince in chariot with blade of setep.
Go for two catapults, and target the stegadon thats giving the 5+ ward save.
Then i reckon big unit of ushabti, and three scorpions for special.
Fill out the rest with archers to hide your scrolled up liches in, and chariot units.
good luck man.
cool guys thanks alot for he advice, im not sure ill win, but as always, ill play for the win and hope for the draw
I got one additional thing to say... NO army is a cheezy army! If an enemy plays with some kind of "cheese", this is often the strong phase of his turn (for example: In this case the magic phase). And ah, I like the smell of it... What can it be? ... It's the smell of VERY expensive units and characters. It's the smell of the flank and the rear side of enemies... You will definitely outnumber them, so make them flee before your knees.
I should also tell you that it's a greater chance to get a miscast than to get an IF He will probably loose some priests if he fails to cast his magic.
You could always face him with a list that most others think is cheezy The "Royal Focus"-list based on a slayer TK and two princes with great power. One hierophant. You won't defeat the LM player in magic, however hard you try if not going for a 3k army
Good Luck to You!
