Welcome to Librarium Online!
Evening guys, i've looked through the first 8 pages of what me search brought up and there was no discussions on this. I'm playing in a 1500pt tourney in a couple of months, and i want to place my tomb prince on a chariot, but there are a lot of really useful items. I was wondering what combos you'd suggest/use in this situation.
My prince will be with a unit of 3 chariots, probably with mirage banner, but maybe Botul. I played a game the other night and had him with chariot of fire, and the collar, but do you think this is the most efficient use of the items available to him?
Instead of starting another post, thought i'd ask this here too. Is it possble to be effective having 2 TPs and 1 LP in 1500pts, or do you think it's almost compulsary to take 1TP/2LPs if you want to do well?
I'm away until sunday night now and i look forward to reading your suggestions/ideas
Flail of skulls, or just a regular flail is what i usually go with, when there in a unit that is.
also the SOA+ E shield is a good combo.
i like to run a prince by himself with the chariot of fire, icon of ruler ship and a flail. i keep him to the far side of the table and bring him in to surprise the hell out of my foes. "what's that you say he can hold a flank and does d6+1 impact hits and his regular s6 attacks!"
Hey 'Milk.Hmm... This is one that plagues me too to be honest. Whenever I've finished adding on all the items I want and look back at the points spent I could actually of afforded another unit of chariots instead. If I wasn't so lazy I would run the math, but as it is...My prince will be with a unit of 3 chariots, probably with mirage banner, but maybe Botul. I played a game the other night and had him with chariot of fire, and the collar, but do you think this is the most efficient use of the items available to him?
I invariably take Chariot of fire. It's really nice for the points and adds another flaming attack that comes in really handy against any number of things. High elf Dragon armour is a pain but it's still a good buy.
Icon of the sacred eye is probably the best choice for a chariot banner IMHO. It will really help convert all those potential hits into actual ones and you can generally get its effects more than once per turn thanks to our incantations etc. BotUL is also a good choice for chariots (and anything else for that matter). I would probably use this if Sacred eye was not an option.
I actually use the collar on my casket priest so I'm maybe not the best one to advise on this. It's also one of those age old questions that usually comes down to personal choice. It would work really well if you were using the BotUL on this unit. It's easier to get away with it if you're running the casket, but you should still be alright. You're really only losing 1DD so no biggie. You could always take a brooch of the great desert if you're really worried about it.Is it possble to be effective having 2 TPs and 1 LP in 1500pts, or do you think it's almost compulsary to take 1TP/2LPs if you want to do well?
If you do run another prince I would be tempted to give him the FoS.
Because Sun Tzu would play Tomb Kings...
- Chariot of Fire, Enchanted Shield, Flail, Light Armour
- Icon of Rulership, Chariot of Fire, Flail, Shield, Light Armour
- Spear of Antarhak, Vambraces of the Sun/Enchanted Shield
- Amulet of Pha-Stah (This is actually the only case where I would suggest to use this Item )
well, all that's given me lots to think about.
1) it's a 'gathering of might' i'm playing in, in jan at WHW, i'm part of the gaming club that runs the tournement, and i've been less than successful at the previous 3
2)with regards to banners, i'm still unsure, i do'nt see the sacred eye being that good because of the poor WS and S, however i guess with 4 attacks coming from each chariot and the prince himself it is something to consider. I'd not considered the standard of the cursing word, at all, ever, but i can see what it would have done against a bloodcrusher unit i charged in my game, that would have been 3 possible wounds, would have flipped the outcome. BotuD will ofc be useful, as will the mirage banner, but i've had a plan which leads me onto point 3......
3)i wasn't shot down as badly as i expected by suggesting a 2p/1lp army, which solves 3 problems i have. 1 - i've played a chaos khorne mortal army for about 8 years now, with a dwarf combat horde as my 2nd army, so i like fighty characters and would love having 2, and i still get the MWBD so not totally gimping my magic. 2 - i hate the LP models, can now use the khalida model as a LP and not worry until i expand to 2k. 3 - can have 2 princes on chariots, which could lead to 2 units of chrariots, which could lead to deciding on banners easier, as i can take 2 of them
4)Now items wise, i'd had a thought, one possibility is a solo prince with chariot of fire, and icon of rulership by himself, or swap icon for something more fighty, like sword of battle or might. I'm a big fan of terror, would the death mask + enchanted shield or vembrances be a good combo do people think? by taking 2 units of chariots and a tomb scorpian, i'm freeing up the massive sink that was 4 ushabti in my original list so can afford more skeletons for my blocks maybe, or take the casket instead of SSC.
I'll have a play round and pop an army list in the relevent section later for people to peruse and critique as required. Thanks for the advice, it's been very informative, hope to see more appear and get a real discusion going regarding the most effective way to equip our chariot mounted princes
I would say that your combo with Death Mask of Kharnut and Vambraces of the Sun works perfectly with a Prince on foot, adding a Great Weapon to his equipment. However, it is not a wonder when talking mounted Princes.
I usually field my Chariot Prince in a unit of 3 Chariots. I give him Chariot of Fire, Enchanted Shield, Flail and Light Armour. It makes up for a balanced character with a powerful charge, able to charge 24"! He has good survivability and even better Strength when it comes to charges.
I'm at least suggesting that you should try this build It will give you an All-Corners-Prince

i'm confused about the enchanted shield/flail combo, surely it's one or the other in combat? or is it just so he makes it to combat, or has the option of choosing which if against low armour guys?
The death mask on a prince on foot i quite like the idea of, might see off those pesky dark riders/harpies/ellyrion reavers/insert random annoying fast things here. They land close, 1 surprise terror test later they run, that appeals to me
I'm still thinking that 2 units of chariots could be quite effective at that level, BotuL on the unit without a prince, mirage/cursing/icon of sacred eye on other unit which will have LP support, or maybe cursing on none prince unit to make up for missing out on his combat abilities.
Hmm, much to ponder, back to my army book i head
I say for your prince...
-chariot on fire
-golden eye of rah-nutt
and if you have one priest, I'd say botul on the chariot, if you have a priest running around on a steed with staff of ravening or something like that near your chariots, I'd say Sacred Eye banner. It comes down to you anywho, but just give all the ideas a try, get a feel for how you play,
It gives him protection from misslies. Since The chariot unit is so small he is likely to get hit by lots of arrows. Not usable in close combat though.i'm confused about the enchanted shield/flail combo, surely it's one or the other in combat? or is it just so he makes it to combat, or has the option of choosing which if against low armour guys?
