I'm new to Fantasy and looking around for an army to play. Tomb Kings look appealing to me because of the Chariots. They are the only army that can field units (more than 1) of chariots. I love the Egypt theme and I particularly like Chariot Warfare.
I know its possible to field lots of chariots in the army. Is it possible to field an all-chariot or very chariot/cavalry heavy force that will not be tabled by turn two against any other army?
I like the idea of a fast, highly mobile army that can shoot as they close and charge home to devastating effect. Chariots seem to be good for this with light cavalry support. Any suggestions?
In 2250 point games I've gone with as many as 12 chariots but I think that if you don't support them with other unit types you'll be doomed. Beyond them, I had a big block of skellies, Tomb Guard, 16(!)Heavy Horsemen, 6 Carrion, 2 Scorpions and 2 Catapults. Yes, you can go chariot heavy and do quite well, but even with a well timed flank or rear charge, with only chariots, static res. will get you and you'll crumble.
They're cool models and with their empty spaces and banner poles, they take well to customization. Each one could belong to a different member of the royal line and have a unique scheme like with the heraldry of European knights.

You could play a Settra army! Rely fully on Chariots, TGs and SHH. Supreme at your own phase but horrible defense and resummoning. Very funny!
Or you could just build chariot-heavy and hope tha they're as good as they're now when listed in the new TK book that is incoming.
Chariot heavy armies need other units to help. They are flankers and one-hit breakers. You'll need some static CR to use them at full strength
I love the idea of a Settra army and I'll have him along of course. My concern is when I'm playing games less than 3,000pts! :p How about Khalida and a bowmen-heavy army? What kind of lists are effective for Tomb Kings between 1,000 and 2,000pts?
Yes, a chariot heavy army. Very possible, tricky to play. The list I'm still testing runs 18 chariots, it's on the army lists. Chariots are easily my favorite core choice (when you take the king of course). A khalida list can be downright nasty, and if you look through our army lists for a bit you'll get an idea of what most people play and stay away from. The catapults are a unit you'll wanna field for sure, and the casket is a good one depending on your play style. The scorps are amazing, a unit of carrion are helpful, and our skeles for core regenerate like crazy with the right incantations and the banner of undying legion. Tomb guard, well if I ever take them it's to abuse the banner of Rakaph, and I feel the ushabti are a tad bit overpriced. I almost always take skeles with. bows. This is all just my opinion from playing a few games though. A big part of our armies is our characters, we rely heavily on them, work out combinations you like with them, and there's a link to tactica for tomb kings somewhere, dunno where though, I'm sure someone can post it for ya if they got it
