Welcome to Librarium Online!
Alright, so just got the news. Now first of all sorry I didn't want to post this in the Tomb Kings in 8th thread. Thought it too important for that! But without further adou.
So the Bone Giant has the whole unstoppable assault rule. Average on 4 attacks your getting about 7 complete hit and wounds at strength 6. Now then 8th ed. gives the bone giant a thunder stomp attack, and an additional +1 to CR for causing terror (and let's face it he'll get the charge to give him another +1). But here's the great thing, his thunder stomp, d6 auto hits at your strength (though be it they strike last) add to your unstoppable assault. Meaning you can get an additional 6 attacks even though its last! And keep going ang going (like the bunny ) I don't think its broken, but I do find it entertaining.
glad a bought and assembled a bone giant a couple weeks ago
Bone giant rules for unstoppable assault simply state a successful wounding hit, before saves. I can confirm a stomp attack does both a hit and a wound.
Certainly follows the Warhammer Online depiction where the giant keeps jumping up and down on me without giving my poor warrior much hope.
Fantasy: Wood Elves, Dark Elves, Beastmen and Tomb Kings.
LotR: Misty Mountains and Rohan
New terror is just panic test, meaning you can't bomb anymore, and give a +1 one, unless I misread that paragraph. And because thunder stomp is an attack, one that auto hits but goes last in every round of combat. Assuming the Bone Giant lived the combat, his unstoppable assault benefits. I say keeps going because, 6 extra strength 6 attacks, assumming they all wound and no 1's are rolled, that's 6 more attacks, average 3 hit and wound, and anywhere from 2 to 1 more attack coming out of that. So throwing 7 before thunder stomp, and about 10 more after. Sorry but 20 attack Bone Giants sound awesome to me.
(and like 8 said, this ruling of the rule has been confirmed! And is a given, at least until army book wide FAQ's are released prior to the 8th ed release)
The Bone Giant has 2 hand weapons (so really 5 attacks). The low WS still is a problem, though. You're likely rolling 4's to hit on most things.
I like the bone giant. But you still have to be wary of him. I think the greatest downside to him is that close combat is now always at I order, so he will always go last... best to charge him into a flank to mitigate attacks back to him... and try to use smite on him to get a few kills in before the actual combat, and if you get lucky the unstoppable assault can come in handy.
Terror doesn't give you +1 combat res. Charging does give +1 combat res.
The bone giants thunderstomp attacks would cout for unstoppable assault. This means its become a more viable choice. However, its still going to struggle against elite enemy troops, who will have little difficulty killing it given the extra, higher initiative attacks they are getting. In 8th (before the new army book coming in november) im seeing bone giants needed to either combine the charge, or hit flanks. They are still not unit killers... for shame...
