Hi all! I am looking to start a Tomb King army but have a couple questions. I have seen Vauls games so I have a basis on how they are supposed to be played. However I realize 8th edition is coming out on saturday and I've heard down the rumor vine that the Tomb Kings will be one of the first books redone. Has anyone heard this and is it true? I would really hate to buy some chariots only to have newer multi part kits come out in a couple months. Just wanted some advice on what you would do if you were a new player. Also what are the chances of our archers keeping the hitting on 5+ for 8th edition? PLZ O PLZ
Also I have heard a rumor that we will now be getting heavy chariots as well as light? I love chariots!
Armies: 40k: Imperial Guard, Orks Fantasy: Skaven
I would get the basics, if I were you. Like a battalion and some characters By doing this, you have a good start to build up your 8th ed TK army when the book is released. And, yeah... The release-date is rumoured to be in October, methinks.
Check out ebay... with the upcoming 8th ed it seems like there are people that are selling there TK armies for fairly cheap (Painted 2k army for 120 US). Also you can buy bits and pieces for almost nothing. I found that by buying the skellies pieces there i can get 32 skellies for less then 25 US (normally 32 dollars for 16 skellies) just a few idea's for you.
Tutumra, Prince of Zandri. Long live the Dead.
I'd wait and see the new kits because the models are terrible compared to the new ones. Just look at the difference between the TK warriors and VC skeleton warriors, no giant heads. The kits will become more expressive but will be balanced in price(in VC's battalion you get $214 worth Skaven you get $215 worth and beastman battalion you get $192 worth) I'm assuming they will do the same. You don't want a mix of old and new models in just doesn't look right.
I actually like some older models...I have an army of metal cadians from the 90s, and they always get a second look, because newer players haven't seen them before, and older ones are nostalgic. I wouldn't necessarily mix old and new skellies in the same unit...but if they do plastic TG, and I want to raise a new regiment of them, I think it would add a little variety to the army to have an old metal regiment and a new plastic one on the board at the same time. Also, for skeletal bowmen, even if I did like the newer models better, I'd go for cheap over pretty for bulk core non-centerpiece models. If I'm spamming out 80+ archers, I'm probably not going to paint them with quite the same level of care as I do a unit of ushabti, so why would I want to pay $2+ for the new models if others are dumping old ones for $.40 appiece?
