It seems to me bound items are now... worst. You still have to roll for them. Sounds pointless to me. The point of them was to have a spell to auto cast. You didn't have to use dice. So what's the point of bound items now?? They still use dice, so it doesn't seem that much of a benefit. Am I missing something or has the meta game for bound items shifted that much. At first I thought I made a mistake playing TK, since their spell acted as bound. Thank god for the errata.
In a way i think their better. With how Winds of Magic work, you use the casting dice you have on your bound items, which gives the chance the opponent will waste his dispel dice on them rather then on your incantations. For one of my Khalida lists i use my power dice on her Scepter and my banner of undying Legion. they tend to use 2 or 3 dispel dice on her scepter leaving me a better chance to let 2 incantations threw, the light of death, and or a 2nd shot off from the catapult.
It now can be used to trick your opponent to waste dice. at least this is how i use them. I'm sure others have found other ways. Like the wizard hat or something.
Yep, Stoutzombie has it right. Bound item essentially allow us to tap into the winds of magic and take advantage of those dice whereas our normal incantations do not need to use any of those dice at all. TK magic is basically pretty crap compared to some of the flashy spells availlable in the normal lores, but we can generate an awful lot of it so it balances out. If you build your list well then you can easily overwhelm your opponents dispel dice and gain a big advantage -and items like the Ruby ring and BotUL make this a whole lot easier.
Because Sun Tzu would play Tomb Kings...
