So I was just thinking, all my lists I run I usually don't run any magic weapons. I've never actually played against any ethereal units, which is surprising. How does everyone deal with them? The only thing I have in my army that can hurt them is the magic vortex.. Which isn't the best thing ever. Against vampires I could probably just kill the general, if the ethereals don't get to me first. So what would you do?
Roll with a couple screaming skull capapults and magic weps on your characters. Ethereal is not that common, so a few items that can bring them down is probably enough.
Yeah I don't know what to do, I'm limited in models and that tournament list I posted is pretty much all I have. I guess I'll just have to take the risk of no magic weapons. I'd rather just get a great weapon on my prince instead of buying an upgraded for more points, that does less. I don't think it's worth it because like you said, ethereal isn't that common
Just use catapults man
Casket of Souls
The two bound spells from the Hierotitan
Lore of Light: Shem's Burning Gaze
Lore of Light: Banishment
Lore of Death spells can be used in a pinch, but there are pretty short range.
I think I'll just take the risk and try to beat ethereal units by combat res. They're not really all that common anyway. I'd rather buy a great weapon for my prince instead of a rubbish 5p magic item that is only ever going to help me against ethereals. There's always the vortex as well, I'm yet to try it out. Although I was disappointed when I learnt it had to be place next to the casters base. Well then again, imagine it coming in from the side getting every single enemy unit. That would be overpowered.
Well, getting an awesome angle with the skullstorm is tricky, sure. Most enemies try to pick a weak flank and attack you there, so I tend to put my hiero in the middle behind my tomb guard... And throw a judas goat in the path of his hammer, let the enemy overrun on what seems like not a terrible angle (i.e. where he won't have a unit set up to flank charge him, that's too obvious!) then send that vortex right into his side. Got the template to pass over every model in a swordmaster horde once, with predictable results. The guy says "nobody's ever wasted power dice on skullstorm against me before." That was before the thing traveled 32" and gutted his unit. He changed his tune about that spell! Anyway, you don't need a flank shot if you just cast the boosted version.
