It depends on what your playing style is. When you play if you build a stong centre and a flexible flank supported by archers, get ushabti as the can help secure a flank or the centre and can do damage to high armour opponents. If you attack your opponent from a distance and ambush archers, artillery eg cannons, take the scorpions.

You said though that you want to take out high elf knights, high strength attacks are good, depending on the cavalry? which cavalry does your opponent use as this will come in handy, but i'm a bit bias with ushabti and they should do well against any type of cavalry they face, if they charge!

A couple of other things to consider, as they are very different units.

If you need something to hunt lone characters / war machines or to march block, a tomb scorp is fantastic value.

If you need some good flankers to support your infantry blocks, or something to decimate small elite enemy units - ushabti are the way to go.

Combined with an icon bearer, either of these guys will be lethal! (Y)

out of the 2 which one has the higher strength rating,

if got ushabiti they would be to counter lizardmen kroxigors, or to take out salamaders or stegadon. or to smash skinks and saurus or kill siver helms and tyranoc chariots.

if i got scorpions they would be for all of this minus the saurus and stegadon + enemy mages and machines (repeter bolt thrower and TECLIS!!!!!!!!&#33

i'll also be playing dark elves (he has the witch king) why does everybody have special characters!!!!!!!!!! :realmad:

Most starting players go for the sheer power of special characters, but you can create your own character which is much cooler(and the points saved can go to more troops). For you, go ushabti. They stand a better chance against the opponents you listed. The scorpions would need to hit flanks and rears etc. Also, if you come up against some large infantry squads, the scorpions gonna lose out, where the ushabti whould win.

I think both are awesome and I probably wouldn't go into battle without at least one lot of each. Ushabti prove a fantastic hard hitting unit for front or flanks while scorpions frighten opponents, kill very well, and are great for taking out small units, warmachines and lone mages. Both are, IMO, essential for the army.

But I do not play small battles so it is probably different for them, and I know some people have very different playing styles where they may not always be useful...

Is it allowed to take 2 icon bearers? Anyway I advice against using them, I think they suck royally. If you need a fighting hero a tomb prince is way better. A icon bearer in a unit of skeletons isn't going to change much, while tomb guard don't really need a character, and if you put a character in, you should make it an owning character. And scorpions don't take away rank bonusses or get a +1 or +2 for rank and rear charges because they dont have Unit Strenght 5+(unless this changed since last time I checked) that's the reason I dont take them a lot, only sometimes (though a TS in a Border Patrol owns), I also have a advice vs Elves (dark and high elves in particular): Chariots win you the battle, if you take a TK they become core, then take about 4 units of them, and get your liche priests in position so that at least one chariot block always charges.

we've already discussed the merits of icon bearers at pretty exhaustive lengths, to the point where we come to the conclusion that tomb princes are better as combat monsters, whereas icon bearers augment all units within a certain distance.

Sorry, I chose not to read all, for it would be too much, and decided to rather post all my opinions at once.
