Hi. I just getting the book today for Tomb Kings. I havent found the "Starting Tomb Kings" lists useful, so i wanted som advice. I'm going to play a lot against Dark Elves, Chaos, and a bit less of Vampire Counts. But a balanced army good against good armor saves would be nice. By the way, I hate magic.

your looking at the wrong army. the tomb kings are pretty bad at piercing armor and magic is the only way the tomb kings are any good. Take dwarves, no magic and lots of high strength stuff, as well as high powered cannons.
if you dont like magic dont play tomb kings, because all characters can cast incantations (my will be done included).
I can tell you that without magic, your TK list will suck. No buts, it will stink without recourse. Theres also the fact you need a wizard to make a legal list.

Ya. I saw. But i still gonna play them. The main reason i hate magic is bacause i can never get my hands on the Warhammer rulebook, but i just borrowed a friends, and figured it out, so magic is ok. For my army. I was considering skellie archers filling up my core requirement, and then use solid blocks of Tomb Guard for some serious muscle. Any other ideas for this kind of arme?
Get a casket of souls. It can deal huge amounts of damage, if it goes off. It never will go off, because your opponent will always save dice/scrolls, if he's smart, but you'll deprive him of these, and make his casting weaker. Make your skeleton regiments 10 and the TG 24 or 25 (4x6 or 5x5, your preference.) Also, be sure to get catapults and many priests
Listen to only the suggestions you like, and only do what I said if you're aiming for a defensively oriented army.

K. Thanks for the advice. Neways, my friends dont usually field magic, so, that should be pretty helpful. But one of my friends is Dark Elves, and in 3500 point games, he fields Malekith, who is a level 4 Wizard. Anyways, Cost of models is no object, because i can play with proxies (my friends do too) untill i have enough to buy the models. That'll take a while, because i have to finish painting SM models, getting LM models and finishing those too. Maybe 2 or 3 years.
You have to take at least one liche priest for an army to be legal (unless you're playing warbands or border patrol rules at 500 points). They are your army's heirophant - the priest that animates your army.

I play Chaos as well as TK, and my gf plays DE. My TK list hasn't lost a game yet, including 3 against snob elves, lots of basic skellies with hw, light armour and shield. big blocks of 32. no tomb guard, no ushabti, I bought two battallion boxes, use the 16 heavy cav as one unit - it fights like a normal unit of infantry, use 6 chariots for flanking, 1 icon bearer, queen khalida 1 catapult casket and the rest of my hero choices in priests. In 20 odd games my casket has only gone off against the chaos army - no mage, and does massive damage. The catapult is great at taking out heavy cav. everything else I aim to autobreak and chase off the field. 32 basic skellies with armour get a 4+ save in cc, i don't expect them to kill anything, I just expect them to win combat and autobreak the enemy. Save archers and cav for units that are unbreakable or immune to psych. try a catapult against malekith, or equip your heroes with killing blow items. I love the look on my gf's face everytime I do that!
