Welcome to Librarium Online!
I have recently been growing more and more frustrated with skeleton warriors. The consensus seems to be that they are not there to kill stuff, but to outnumber and cause fear. If this is the case, why on earth do they coast 8 points a model? A dwarf warrior is the same and clealry has a better stat line. A goblin has a better stat line and costs a mere 2 points. My question is whether or not 6 points for fear is worth it. I just want to find out other people's view on this, it's not as if I have much choice about taking skeletons in a TK army.
The seemingly high cost of skeletons in both TK and Vampire Counts armies can be explained when you realise that although they are fairly poor troops they have can have a half decent save (hand weapon shield and light armour) which means that it will be quite hard for the enemy to reduce them to a level which they are no longer outnumbered.
ou are also paying for a unit that is not only effectivly unbreakable but also can be re-plenished throughout the game.
Adding to this, undead armies have a tad overprice core units, but underpriced special units.Originally Posted by Berny Mac
All perfectly valid points, although I'm not sure Ushabti are underpriced at 65 points a model. It's still frustrating to have to pay 8 points for a model that can't reliably kill anything in combat other than a skink or a swarm.
I would disagree. Here's why I think Ushabti are a bargain actually.Originally Posted by ker4
Let's look at other big guys in other armies. They all cause fear. They all have 3 wounds. They all move 6. They all have a save of 4+ or 5+.
But here's how Ushabti get the edge. All the other big guys have a WS of 3. Ushabti have a WS of 4. All have an unreliable leadership value, Ushabti are undead, and are constructs to boot.
Big guys are have S4 or S5, and and if kited with great weapons, they go last. Ushabti go on initiative, and at S6.
They also can be braught back to life. this beats hands high troll regeneration !
I am not such an expert on Tomb Kings but I know Grave Guard are a bargin points wise so I would probably agree with Wolf_Pack here.
I personally do think that the skellies are slightly overpriced, perhaps just by 1pt. The fact is, they pay for fear, and their unbreakability, and probably for their ability to be replenished. However, this does mean that large units (often there to die) are very expensive. That's the price you pay for having a nice sponge that can autobreak, but the irony is that it costs so much.
Then again, I don't think they are vastly overpriced, nor a fatal flaw in the TK army. Just a bit too pricey for what they do (effectively die quite often), but you can see where the expensive points come from (say, about 6) considering unbreakability, resurrection, fear etc.

Fear is certainly an undead Genera''s best friend. I'm still not sure about Ushabti, but I am sure that Wolf Pack and I can just agree to disagree. I do think they look very nice though.
Ahhh yes, very true. I would definitly pay 68 pts just to have nice figs on the board. Just the the Teutogen Guard.Originally Posted by Andusciassus
