What can tomb kings possibly DO vs ogres?
Ushabti and tomb scorps are the only thing that stand a chance!!
We as tomb king players cant even use the greatest undead advantage of fear!
(Personally im used to that, as my main opponents are skaven, woodelves, ogres, and 2 different vamp count generals)
But what can tomb kings do against 3 wounded S4 T4 creatures? We have to inflict the full 3 wounds against them to remove one ogre. (Im not sure about this one, Fear vs Fear, your immune to the tests, but do you still autobreak through outnumbering?)
I just CANT lose to this guy! Hes such a bad sportsman!!!!
This is quite possibly one of the most one-sided matchups out there imho. I've seen it done before, but it isn't easy.
Obviously though, there is 1 way to beat him easily, but it will appear pretty cheesy. Take the high queen nefeferea or w/e, and go with nothing but poisoned archers. His lack of armor will come through, and he won't make it halfway accross the table.
Aside from that though, beating Ogres is a tough one, but it is doable. You need to really manuver, which is hard when you lack the ability to march. You need some potent characters, and weapons that can inflict many wounds. In this matchup you can't really rely on your basic troops at all. You need to combine strong characters with a hard hitting unit. A king and a prince in a unit of chariots can pop through an ogre unit fairly easily if outfitted correctly.
Your army may indeed look a little cheesy, as ideally you wouldn't field a single skeleton.
The Hierarchy Chaotica: Kinky Sex > Change > Disease > Blood
98% of the population actually believes these stupid statistics. If you're part of the 2% of humanity with a brain, put this in your profile.
I've played against Ogres thrice now. I've won one game, and lost the other two, but both losses were only caused because of lousy placement on my part of my Hierophant.
The best answer to most Ogre units is same answer to nearly all other armies' units: large blocks of Skeleton infantry to soak a hit, and then flank with a power hitter. Also, it's always good to have a Prince or King in the skeleton blocks to be able to actually hit and wound the Ogres reliably.
In reality, it all depends on how the Ogre player's army is set-up. If there are huge blocks of Ogres in one or two units (12-16 Ogres), you'll need to bog it with a skeleton block and then flank with Chariots or Ushabti.
If you are facing several small units of three or four Ogres at a time, you can probably beat most of the units with just a skeleton block led by a character, but you need to consider that the enemy may flee from your charges, which may allow him to charge with impact hits.
At any rate, if you're going to kit against Ogres, the two things that I'd recommend is the Kanopi thing (it's an arcane item) and dispels all remains in play effects at bound power level 4. Also, I'd recommend the Casket. Without the general nearby, most Ogre units are only Ld 7, so the Light of Death can really shine against this army (pun intended).
Also, remember each turn that your army still generates two power dice that you may use to try and dispel any of your opponent's remains in play spells (sometimes I let a spell go off because Ogre magic tends to hurt it's mages, and I can simply dispel it in my turn).
As for the fear causing, since Ogre cause fear, they won't autobreak if beaten in combat. Instead, they take a normal break test with any modifyers that you cause.

The trouble with ogres is that they have very little static combat res, i would use this to your advantage.
I would go for mobius prime's tactics over fat badger's. Skeletons still rock against ogres!
I think that tomb kings should have no difficulty beating the ogres, i wouldn't say it was a bad matchup at all
One other thing I'd like to add:
In addition to the threat the Casket will cause to your opponent through the Light of Death, the -1 to cast really hurts the Ogres bad. Their spells need a 3 to cast and our Ogre player always throws one dice at it. But when he faces me using the Casket, he'll throw two dice to get the 4 that he needs (4 with -1 = 3). This leads to less spells and the potential for the Ogres to miscast, which can seriously hurt the Ogre player.
I'd have to agree with Stonehambey. I don't really see how TK vs Ogres is that bad of a match-up. I'd use your incants to make your archers and catapult fire in the magic phase at first. The panic checks cause by your catapults will hurt pretty bad. I wouldn't tunnel any of my swarms or scorpions either. The chance of losing one isn't worth it. Ogres don't really have anything worth getting behind their lines for.
Also, don't forget your chariots! 3 chariots in the flank will hurt any unit, even ogres.
I'd also like to point out: if playing against a good player, the ogre player should NEVER get impact hits. They are far too easy to avoid. If you know you're going to get charge, march within 6" and sit tight. Not always the best to get charged, but there's no use giving him impact hits.
Not a bad match-up, for all the aforementioned reasons. If you can panic even one unit with screaming skulls you have the advantage, and then use superior numbers and ability to restore wounds to your advantage. It's not an EASY match-up, but not an impossible one either, I don't think.
Thanks for all the advice!
what do you guys think of a casket on a liche preist? Or would that be a little overboard for under 2,000 points? Im notoriously good at rolling dice so i shud be able to get some wounds on an ogre unit, tomb swarms are out, low toughness against multiple attacks at S4 would just be painful.
Ushabti and Tomb Scorpions are definatly in, but no tunneling i agree. S5 and S6 multiple attacks ill be character hunting.
I only have one unit of 3 Chariots though, do you think thats enough?
Thanks for your help, i really appreciate it.
I would go for two units or chariots i think, perhaps stick a character in one of them for some extra hitting power.
Be careful with the tombscorpion when going character hunting with him though, remember that most ogre characters will have a stat line similar to or even better than your scorpion...
In a big enough points game you could always consider taking a bone giant too? as a terror causing creature they would still cause fear in ogres- and unstoppable assalut would mean a few of the fat bounders would be going down too.
all in all i think a liberal use of chariots, mixed with screaming skull catapults and Ushabti would enable you to more than match the ogres
