Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm an old fantasy player (like 1990, first edition player) and I've decided to put together a TK army and get back into the hobby. I've generally decided on my basic army shape but I wanted to get some opinions from folks with more recent fantasy expoerience then I have! My main area of doubt is around shooting, as I'm thinking that I want to use a SSC and COS as my main ranged attacks. I was thinking of putting them together pon the battlefield with a good field of fire and throw a unit of four tomb swarms in front of them to keep away flyers and perhaps the odd character because of the small rule allowing line of sight to be traced over them. Plus, I figure that I could give the LP manning the COS a collar of shapesh and a dispel scroll that way.
That combo will eat up a fair amount of points but I'm betting that it will be pretty devastating on any units that advance towards my infantry sponge units. I'm liking the thought of the COS because of the way that it will impact the enemy movement and use of dispel dice. 2250 points seems to be the moast common point size in my area.
Is this a tried and true set-up for a TK army? Anyone see any big issues with it besides it being a big fat target for enemy artillery?
Thanks in advance!
P.S> Am I correct in thinking that the LP will still able to cast spells while on the COS?
Yeah the priest can still cast, and it is indeed a good idea to put them close together because then he can cast the incantation of smiting on the SSC and let it fire twice a turn.
With the defenders you propose, it is indeed a huge point sink though. And the SSC isn't really that good if you aren't great at guessing. Throw in some skellie bowmen if you are going long range heavy, their special rule to always hit on 5's is pretty good and makes them worthwhile archers IMO. In fact, you could even use a unit of them as the screen instead of swarms if you wanted then get two uses out of the screen.. It would require the CoS being on a hill so you don't block its LoS though.
i like having a preist next to it or almost the same reason see i like the fact that if ya screw up and it can't fire in the shooting phase for whatever reason you can cast the spell and it will anyway
"take my love, take my land, take me to where i cannot stand, i don't care i'm still free you can't take the sky from meee" ;- firefly
"i'm gonna grant you your greatest wish i'm gonna show you a world without sin" ;- serentiy
"I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar" ;- serenity
I kind of like the idea of being able to "adjust fire" with the SSC during the turn. I you miss the first time then you can adjust with your second shot. I'm kind of an old hand at wargaming though so I'm pretty good at estimating table top distances.
By the way you dont need LOS for catapult, as long as you can tell there is some sort of ennemies in that direction your good.
I have used the 2 catapult combo often whit a LHP or whit a TK less then 6" away very succesfully (that one time in the first turn i killed a deamon lord, 450pts or so :w00t: )
Let slip the dogs of war.
Bretonian (over 5k points)
Tomb king (over 5k points)
Ogre kingdom (4.5k points)
Tyranid (3k points but not even half assemble, new army)
Heh, if you're an unsporting player then you don't really need to have a LoS for a cannon either, you can just "overguess"Originally Posted by panzer96
