    Chariots, or Heavy Horsemen???

    Which would be more effective?
    - 2 units of 3 chariots, with a few points to spare
    - 1 unit of 3 chariots, and 1 unit of 8 heavy horsemen with a standard bearer

Sorry about the ambiguity of the question by the way...

The sad thing about heavy horsemen, are they arent actually 'heavy'. You can take them, but 8 isnt enough. So take the chariots this time...
By day he fought with sword and shield.....
By night he fought with pen and parchment.....

I remember a topic like this coming out ages ago on another forum. Most people were in favor of the chariots, and then some fellow went absolutely crazy on statistics, and proved that in equal points the horsemen are almost as effective damage wise. The advantage to the horsemen is that you will have a much higher unit strength. The advantage to the chariots is that they can have a character in their ranks, while the horsies can't.

I'd say it all depends on your personal preferences. One major advantage to the horsemen is that people drastically underestimate them. Your enemies will fear the charge of a chariot unit, but they might not think so much of a horsemen charge. Statistically you're bound to inflict almost as much damage while your opponent doesn't recognize them as so much of a threat.

98% of the population actually believes these stupid statistics. If you're part of the 2% of humanity with a brain, put this in your profile.

Actually, I've played wiith a unit of skeletal horsemen, I and I cannot see how they could ever be statistically better. Both the rider and the mount have a WS of 2, are just like the chariots, they are unlikely to hit so compared 8 horsmen with full command to 3 chariots.

you can usually bring 3 chariots in base to base contact, and horsemen in 4x2.

    one gets 6 S4 attacks and 6 S3. The other gets 5 S4 and 4 S3. But the chariots get 3D3 S4 impact hits.

Even with thier banner and rank, I think the the chariots will be mre effect, ans will have more wounds.

Hmm, the whole unit strength thing is my dilemma, choosing between the harder hitting unit, and the more durable one.

Heavy cavalry aren't exactly durable. At toughness 3 and 4+ save, they really don't hold out thier own. Chariots at the very least get a toughness of 4. Unless they redo them as mount tomb guard like vampire counts, they will never see tournament play, unless in a unit of 16 !

    I agree with Wolf_Pack

Khemri chariots are famously good, Khemri cavalry are notoriously bad.

Just watch out for strength seven though, can be a bummer

Also, eye statistics with suspicion, many people aren't as good as they think

    Ciao
