I was looking at the tk army list and most army have 2 ssc, considering the effect of this warmachine isn't it cheesy to use 2 of them in a 2k army list?
I don't think so, I mean look at all of the more shooting capable armies, empire, skaven, dwarfs, o&g, elves, you are just playing an advantage, and they are still guess weapons. I doubt most people would complain, and if they did, they are pretty poor sports.
Well shooty army of doom are just stupid IMO, warhammer is a strategy game not a dice rolling turnament...
Well thanks for answering my question about the ssc.
True, gunlines can be pretty lacking in strategy, and just cowardly in some circumstances, but some shooting can be a tactical boon, and prove an effective router, and deterrent. A couple shots though is nothing wrong, I mean, there were certainly stone throwers in olden times, and they were just as much of a guess weapon as they are in the game.
I agree that a full-out shooting army is quite cowardly (even cheezy perhaps?), but a wellbalanced army should be able to tear it apart. Depending on what kind of shooting the enemy is using (tempate, multishot, cannon), a wellbalanced force's got something to put up against it. Flyers to take them out, cavalry on the flanks, blocks of infantry to take up fire (all but the template ones), and probably enough cunning to move away from the worst firing.
But back on topic .. there's nothing cheesy about taking two SSCs - it's totally legal and most people are using it. Since it's such a good artillerypiece it can really be effective before the chariots charge in
It's when people shoot over your screening units to panic units behind that i get a little miffed about it.
Like i said in a recent rules question thread, how would a stone thrower crew be anymore willing to overshoot than a cannon crew?
Especially when the stone thrower forces a panic check!
Yea that is when the cheese starts to rot, my friend plays empire, and he will sometimes overguess intentionally. Although it means you hit what you want, it's pretty bad sportsmanship I think, and ignores the tactics of the other player. I don't mind when he guesses short, and will roll a ten or something to hit the unit behind, but as long as you don't take advantage of it, it's perfectly legal and normal.
Yeah this is fine, you can't control the dice godsI don't mind when he guesses short, and will roll a ten or something to hit the unit behind,
But after about five games people can pretty much tell if their guess is over:sleep:

Taking 2 SSCs in a 2k game is not really much different than taking a hellcannon in a 2k game (except SSCs can shoot more than once/turn). I don't have an issue with it as such, but as has been mentioned intentionally overguessing is frustrating. I don't think there's any way to deal with it though, so I guess you just have to suck it up.
I can't stand the shooty army of doom either Auraco. If I wanted a battle to be nothing but shooting with little strategy, I'd be playing 40k not WHFB!
When you think about some of the things other armys can take as core or special unit is the SSC even in a 2k army not that hardcore. There is a chance of MISFIRE and the chance of making a HIT is small.
In a way if you take one SSC, are the chances of killing a unit, not very big. And with chaos knigths or Ironbreakers or some other heavy armoured unit you have to take out are the SSC not bad.
