Welcome to Librarium Online!
Okay guys I just wonderd.. I`m expanding my list from 1000p to 1500..
and I`m adding a skreming skull, 3 ushabti, some more bone for my footmen and the staff of ravening.. that leave me like 120 points to spare..
so I wanted to add some horsemen..
I imagine them only 6 strong maybe 5..
and was wondering..
is heavy cav og light cav more suited for my army..
I play defensivly.. so I have alot of turns of shooting so I belive the bows on the light will be helpfull... and a 5/6 strong unit is a flanker unit so the fast cav also helps alot..
but in combat there 6+ save is way weaker then the fighter units 4+.. and cold be both units undoing.. so the 4+ of the heavy cav is more relieble, and there str 4 may even kill something.. but I really wold love the extra bows.. and points are always a matter and the light cav are 2 points cheaper.. But again.. loosing combats due easy dieing horsemen is kinda sad..
so how about it.. will someone more expirienced help me out and solve this (to my mind) riddle..
what do you belive wold suit me better..
sry about any errors.. I`m doing my best to keep em at minimum..
well firstly i will say that tk cav suck big time no matter which way you slice it
but heavy cav would be of more use to you use em to side charge what your footmen are engaged with
"take my love, take my land, take me to where i cannot stand, i don't care i'm still free you can't take the sky from meee" ;- firefly
"i'm gonna grant you your greatest wish i'm gonna show you a world without sin" ;- serentiy
"I am a leaf on the wind, watch how i soar" ;- serenity
Yeah they're both pretty much crap, and not worth taking at all. If you really want to take one of them, take the heavy cavalry and in a large unit. Otherwise crumbling is really going to hurt them. 10 models probably, I've seen units of 16 too.
For 120 you could go with 3 Chariots instead
If you're determined to use cavalry, I honestly would suggest Lgt Cav for your playing style.
Since you play defensively with a lot of shooting, Lgt Cav are better suited to swing around on enemy units for the sole purpose of march blocking. If the enemy reforms to shoo away your horsemen, the fast cavalry rules make it a bit easier to get out of the way. This buys you more time to shoot at the enemy with your ranged weapons. Whereas Hvy Cav would most likely have to charge the enemy, try to wheel away, or else stand there and get killed.
Also, with the new rules for fleeing units, it'd be easier to get Lgt Cav behind the enemy in case you cause an enemy unit to panic with your shooting and flee through your horsemen. That would lead to a wiped out unit.
If you use horsemen for this role, and can keep them from getting shot up, then they'll do wonders for you.
I would never charge an enemy with Lgt Cav. Even in a coordinated charge into the flank/rear supporting a skeleton block or Ushabti, the ease in which our Lgt Cav get killed could easily outdo any flank/rear charge or rank negation bonus.
Edit: If you use these tactics, be prepared to be called the Wood Elf Tomb Kings.
Instead of cavalry i'd go for chariots as mentioned or...more skeletons!
You can never have enough of these guys. Even if you only add to existing blocks to bring them up to 25 (although i don't know what size you're using atm)
As it's quite a low points game, maybe some chariots would be best suited for this situation, how much infantry are you currently running?

so everyone seems to agree that the horsemen sucks huh? ^^
well maybe you have a idea for a better adition then ..
and chariots wont work as all my special slots are filled..
the army at 1500 is ganna look somewhat like this..
1scorp/5carrion (after one game with the carrions I`M starting to love what they do..so they might replace the scop)
that leave about 120 points..
wich isent really enugh to add a new skelie unit, even though I wold want to..
if i cold add some chariots, Id do it but I like my special selection as it is..
so guys any ideas..
(or do the light horsemen actuly fith in the army?.. played as MobiusPrime said?)
(side note.. I`ve been playing all out offencive Cult of slaanesh untill now.. so I wont mind being called khemri dwarf/wood elf)
thanks for all the help so far...
People always slate my ten carrion approach but i love it. They sure are hard! and they do a job as well, 120 points would get you 5 more which would bring your total up to...10!
Actually, Heavy Horsemen do have a use. You use them as a fast skelly block. They're decent in that role. If used like normal cav, they suck. But they're good infantry ^^
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Whilst the argument surrounding Light Cavalry has a lot of value, if you are going with 5 Carrion, you are probably better off with the Heavy Cavalry.
I would hold them in reserve for flank charges and watch your enemies fly.
Wood Elves 2/0/1
Orcs & Goblins 0/1/0
Next Army - Tomb Kings
