My Princes and Kings keep getting trounced by enemy characters. What is a good kit combination that makes our characters capable of taking on Vampires and Orc Bigbosses?
I would imagine you need a great weapon to boost the strength up to 6, than take the 4+ ward save ankh(?). or GW, vambraces, shapesh...
last game I got a "killing blow" on the black orc warboss before he even got to take a swing.
Seems that with our light armor you need to put the prince in a nice unit. I've been sticking him in Ushabti... but with the Ant. Spear, enchanted shield and armor, as this way the Ushabti can do the heavy hitting and won't be ignored with a likely 9 str 6 hits coming in...
I always take:
great weapon and golden ankhara on my prince (if on foot), destroyer of eternities and collar of shapesh on a king (again if on foot), and if you mount them on chariots maybe tool up the chariot up a bit then get a ward save or somthing. I would recomend that you should not put magic weapons on princes as you won't get a very good save. Also one of the best combos that i've used is: golden ankhara, armour of the ages, vambraces of the sun and a great weapon this gives your king ws6 with 4 strength 7 attacks, 5 wounds at t5 and a 5+/4+ save.
hope this helps
p.s. sorry if i went on a bit :ninja:
I wouldn't be challenging vampires and orc big bosses with Tomb kings... We are among the best fighters, but IMO not quite on par with them.
You could give your prince a chariot, then make it chariot of fire and icon of rulership so he can hit hard and negate ranks then make him a lone flanker. That has worked well for me.
As for the king, I have successfully tooled my king into a hunter recently. Shield, scorpion armour, spear of antarhak, cloak of the dunes. He can use magic to move himself into combat, or if already there to get a kill in, and of course use DD. He is good for hunting lone mages, but doesn't hit extremely hard. I used him to hit the flank of my opponents elite infantry. He heals himself with the spear and only loses 1 wound from CR due to the armour, so generally he can pretty much last forever and hold them in place until reinforcements arrive and you've mopped up the rest of the army.
Has no one considered flail of skulls?
Give it to a prince on a chariot, go challenge your opponents and win combat on overkill. This works beautifully on unsuspecting Battle standard bearers.
You could also give it to the king with scorpion/armour of ages and vambrances of sun.
For a King and on foot, hands down: Destroyer of Eternities and Collar of Shapesh. As long as you have a good block of warriors with, or a swarm nearby, and you don't roll like ass, you are set.

I use the Collar of Shapesh & the Armour of Ages (with a great weapon). If I had the points I'd add the Spear of Antarhak. This combination stops most characters in their tracks, though he hasn't taken on the best of the best yet. They usually panic at the toughness 5 with 5 wounds, specially with his 4+ "ward" save.
That is the main problem I am having in finding a good combination. I just can't seem to justify trying to up a Prince/King's armor save since anything that can reliably wound our characters will probably negate our armor anyway. I guess I should move the Golden Ankhra off the Liche High Priest and just run a Prince with great weapon and 4+ ward.
Nah you need a duelist. then take the flail of skulls, i personaly belive its a must for a tomb king army, its the only way to take out those Dragons, shagots and oversized lords. I love charging into a damn tyrant with it. Usually my king is in a chariot unit with the sacred eye banner he hits on a 2+ with 5 attacks and wound on 2/3 i can take anything on . I personly never leave without it although i realise there are other good magical items, i then go for a ward save of good armour save. + i do not think that an army on foot can every be playable not tomb kings but thats just my opinon.
