Hey there itzDanz. Welcome to Librarium Online, and to the Tyranid Hive! I hope you enjoy your stay with us. You've definitely got an interesting list going there. I have a few pointers and inquires however. First off for HQ. The Broodlord has Infiltrate, which is, at least in my mind, superior to the scout move, and would let you outflank the squad anyway. I'll have to double check on how that works though, because infiltrate + scouts would be a brutal combination on Broodlords. I'd look at adding flesh hooks on at least one of those stealer squads, in place of the feeder tendrils, to allow you to hit before units in cover, hitting first is really the genestealer's greatest protection. WS6 is going to be hitting on a 3+ against pretty much everything but enemy leaders, and rerolls are nice, but making sure you strike first is still better. I'm personally not a fan of barbed stranglers on warriors, there are much better places for that weapon (see also = carnifex). Pretty sure with a single squad you can only field one BS anyway so look into that (or split them into two squads). If you only have one carnifex, and it's in your heavy support, you can add some extra toys to it. Mostly defensive upgrades to keep it on the table. Reinforced Chitin is cheap and a very worthwhile upgrade. Another nice find is the Bonded Carapace, meaning S5 weapons require a 6+ to wound, and S8 get dropped from 2+ to 3+, and with most anti-tank these days being S8, this will offer your fex a decent chance of living through the shots. A formating tip, ya don't need to add the number of fleshborers or WoNs for the gaunts etc, since a unit is required to have all the same biomorphs anyhow. Btw, try and search down for a battleforce, stores might still have one in stock, otherwise you'll have to get them box by box, which will really kick you in the wallet.

Ok, thanks for the great reply Alzer, and this is what i've made of it. Tyranid 1000 Point List: HQ: 1x Broodlord – 73 Pts - Feeder Tendrils Retinue 8x Genstealers – 136 Pts - Flesh Hooks (instead of the Scuttlers) (I added 2 more) ELITE: 6x Warriors – 226 Pts - 5x Deathspitter - 1x Venom Cannon (Instead of the Barbed Strangler, is VC better?) - 6x Scything Talons - Extended Carapace (+1 Sv) - Toxin Sacs (+1 S) - Enhanced Senses (+1 BS) TROOPS: (I accidently had 2 gaunt broods instead of 1 which was what i wanted, so i took it out) 8x Gaunts – 72 - pts - 10x Fleshborer - 10x Without Number 8x Genstealers – 160 Pts - Flesh Hooks (Instead of the Feeder Tendrils) - Scuttlers 8x Genstealers – 160 Pts - Feeder Tendrils - Scuttlers HEAVY SUPPORT: 1x Carnifex – 148 Pts -2x Twin-Linked Devourer -Enhanced Senses (+1 BS) -Reinforced Chitin -Bonded Exoskeleton Overall 975 Pts With this i think i will: Infiltrate with the Broodlord and retinue, Outflank 1 brood of genstealers, advance the other one up the field behind a gaunt screenand shoot like crazy with the warriors and 'fex.Tell me what you think about the changes and the plan, and also, you said to try get a battleforce, will that change in January with the new codex and miniature releases? just wondering. Thanks alot |

those models won't change in model and it's a great bargain. So if you can find it try and buy it . List looks pretty good to me (also a new to Tyranids guy). The fex looks a lot better in the second list .Cheers CJ |

Personally I feel the Venom cannon is a stronger choice on warriors, they aren't terribly accurate, however it gives them a pair of high strength attacks that can threaten light vehicles. With the extra points, I'd fill out your gaunts a little bit, really having two squads was not a bad thing to be honest. Gives you many more bodies to get between you and the other guy's guns. And yes, the battleforce is going to get tipped on it's head with the new codex, will be decidedly different from the last one.

I quite like the look of the list, but i can see one problem. Your main anti-tank is your genestealers, and if they arnt coming on for a while due to reserves, and have to run up the board you may find you stuggle to deal with heavy tanks, though your warriors are good for transports with decent scatter. As some general pointers, infilrating your broodlord is a terrible idea for one very good reason. Theres no way to get him into combat, and thus no way to make himself safe from shooting. Under true line of slight it is next to impossible to get a 12" infitrate. So your starting 18" away, with a unit with no guns, cant fleet and that scares the living hell out of people. So theyll get shot with everything nearby, and its very unlikly to survive. Id recogmend getting a combat fex in there too, in low point games, their tends to be little that can really hold their own against them. Alternativly, get a sniper fex for some heavy anti-tank. To get the points id drop the broodlord, youve got loads of stealers as is, then outflank both squads. Also id try to get the carapace instead of tougness, a 2+ is very usefull in lower games, and i like it better than exo-skelton, but thats just preference. Also preference is a strangler over venom cannon on warriors, whilst alzer makes a good point about light vehicles, droping it means you have a squad that only relys on the scatter dice, meaning you can drop the enhanced senses to save points, as an inch is going to make very little difference.

So, if i drop the Broodlord, should I use the warriors as HQ? And what about the Broodlords retinue, should I make them into another squad? And you said to outflank both genstealer squads, well I only really had the gaunts in to give a cover screen for the genstealers while they were advancing, so should I take them out as well? I had the dakka fex because it gets 8 shots and re-roll to hit and wound, but i found out just recently that a hive tyrant get 12 shots with 5 or 6 strength (toxin sacs) so I could just take out the dakka fex and add dakka tyrant and put in a sniper fex for anti-tanking? Need some more help now, any reply posts are greatly apreciatted. Thank you |

regarding the the broodlord, if you want to keep him in thats fine, but hes going to need outflanking. Certainly id drop a genestealer squad in their somewhere, you really dont need that many. With your dakka fex, you want to give it spinebanks too, that way you get an extra 2 shots out of it. Comparing it to a dakka tyrant is hard, the tyrant is better against infantry, but the fex is much more useful against transports. Id go for the tyrant though, if you only want one or the other, the shots are worth it, even if you do lose a bit of defense. Guants are still useful though, theyre great at objective holding , so long as you have the synapse left. So my changes would be. Drop a genestealer squad. If you dont drop the broodlord squad, bare in mind youll only have 2 objective claimers, if you do drop them, you should have enough points to change the dakka fex to a dakka tyrant. heres what id do with the list. HQ: Tyrant - 146 Enhanced senses extended carapace Toxin sacs 2 TL Devourers ELITE: 6x Warriors – 209 Pts - 5x Deathspitter - 1x barbed strangler - 6x Scything Talons - Extended Carapace (+1 Sv) - Toxin Sacs (+1 S) TROOPS: 8x Gaunts – 72 - pts - 10x Fleshborer - 10x Without Number 8x Genstealers – 192 Pts - Flesh Hooks ( i prefer feeders, but thats up to you) - Scuttlers - Carapace 8x Genstealers – 192 Pts - Feeder Tendrils - Scuttlers - Carapace HEAVY SUPPORT: 1x Carnifex – 188 Pts -Enhanced Senses (+1 BS) -Reinforced Chitin -Extended carpace -Venom Cannon -Barbed strangler Total 999 Hope this helps you.
