Opinion: Would you make this charge?

In a game yesterday of nids vs nids I ended up charging a CC fex (Carnifex w/Crushing Claws, Scything Talons, AG+I, AG+WS, Tusks, FH, TW-Mace, TM, RC, BE: 187pts) that had taken no wounds yet into a unit with 4 stealers (EC, ST, TS, and possible some other upgrades) and a Broodlord (TS, EC).

Would you guys make the same choice as I did or not? I'll post what happened later. I want to see what people say before I reveal whether the fex got torn apart or if it killed the stealers and broodlord.

Edit: @##@!! I meant to have it "Would you", not "You you". Can a mod edit the poll question for me?

It might be suicide, but I would go for it because otherwise you would probably get charged by them the next turn anyway. Also, it's kitted out for it, so what the heck.

I'd rather shoot them if I could, but barring that I'd do it.

I did something similar in my last game, except it was my flying scythrant. My opponent's fex had implant attack on it too.

After the first round of combat, he tore my tyrant to shreds (and this was only turn 2 of the match) so I'm gonna vote no!

Just realised I read the question wrong, so I want to change it to yes!

The carnifex has potentially 10 attacks on the charge. The genestealers wound it on a 6 and the BL on a 5 if upgraded. I'd say yes, better for the carnifex to charge than be charged.

It would not be that bad normally, but because the stealers+broodlord have better initiative, better WS and so many upgrades (probably feeder tendrils) the carnifex is in a bad position really.

It is a suicidal charge if hasn't got any help.
But if he doesn't charge he is dead next turn.

Lose/lose situation there. The carnifex has to charge, but it is suicidal (this is slightly better since you deny him 5 extra attacks).

    Some mathhammer:

    Carnifex charges:

BF + 4 Genies go first (assuming +1S & FT for BL and talons for genes):

    4x(2/3[%hit]+1/3x2/3[re-roll])x1/3[%wound T7] + 12x(2/3+1/3x2/3)x1/6 = 2.96 wounds

Carnifex charges, average 3.5 attacks with claws (rounded up to 4) +1 talons +2 tusks +1 tail = 8 attacks

    8x1/2[%hit]x5/6[%wound] = 3.33 wounds

Next turn, BL + 1 gene attack:

    4x(2/3+1/3x2/3)x1/3 + 3x(2/3+1/3x2/3)x1/6 = 1.63 wounds

Assuming Carnifex is not dead (though it should be):

    5x1/2x5/6 = 2.08 wounds

The Broodlord survives with 2 wounds left. The carnifex and genes are wiped out.

In my opinion the charge is a suicide...

The best option would be move away from that unit, running in the shooting phase and waiting for some shooting help. If this wasn't possible, better charge.

Shooting at the time wasn't possible (my shooty unit were either engaged or too far away) and I had another fex near there charging his sniperfex (they ended up killing eachother) so that fex would have been charged if I didn't do it and it had survived and my CCfex that had charged would have been forced to move through difficult terrain to try to get away so the odds didn't seem to really be in my favour to get away.

Anyways, I ended up making the charge. The way I saw it was this: The BL would deal an average of about 1 wound, and the stealers would deal an average of just over 1 wound (didn't really do any math in my head). Niether had FT (I had checked beforehand to see what upgrades everything had) and the BL was at 2 wounds (I think I mentioned that before).

So his stealers fluffed their attacks and the BL did one wound. I rolled a decently high number (and forgot my tail weapon attack) and did a wound to the BL and killed 2 stealers, and another stealer died to NR. Next turn the BL fluffed his rolls and the stealer got one rend and the fex killed both. It turned out for me to be a good charge.

    Now for mathhammer:

    BL: 4*2/3*1/3= 8/9=0.8888 wounds
    Stealers: 12*2/3*1/6= 8/6=1.333 wounds
Total: 2.22222 wounds (As I said, there was no FT this time, otherwise it would have been 2.96 wounds avg)

So at the time it was pretty obvious that the odds of my fex dying were pretty low and it was likely I would have been charged anyways (though when I charged I had thought I was out of range from the BL to get into combat, and I was wrong about that).

So for me it was a good charge, but I'm not so certain I would have done the charge if his BL had FT. I probably would have still done it and hoped the dice were with me (despite the dice hating me for the first two turns-> perhaps I should stop kicking puppies on the way to GW).

I think everybody thought the BL had FT...

In your case the charge was a good deal, and also seems like there were no other options
